The cycle-touring ride to the highest peak in Puglia
Monte Cornacchia E-Bike – Cycling the Dauni Mountains is the cycle-touring event that brings Roseto Valfortore to life every spring. Recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, it sits in the heart of the Dauni Subappennino in the province of Foggia. The initiative combines gentle sport, slow tourism, and regional promotion, inviting enthusiasts and families to hop in the saddle and explore one of the most authentic landscapes in inland Puglia, far from the beaten paths of the coast.
The trail is designed as a scenic loop starting and ending in Roseto Valfortore. Depending on the edition, the route varies between 35 and 40 kilometers, with an elevation gain exceeding 800 meters and a medium difficulty level. Pedal-assist technology makes tackling the Subappennino climbs effortless, making the experience accessible even to those who are not seasoned cyclists.
The true star is Monte Cornacchia, which at 1,152 meters above sea level is the highest peak in Puglia, celebrated as the "roof of Puglia." Along the way, riders pass by landmarks such as the Fortore Valley Belvedere, the Faeto Forest, Lake Pescara, and stretches of panoramic roads immersed in the nature of the Dauni Mountains.
The ride connects some of the area's most characteristic towns in a shared regional promotion project:
The event is as much about sport as it is about socializing. During the ride, refreshment points are set up in the villages along the route, offering fresh fruit, dried fruit, and water. Upon returning to Roseto Valfortore, at the Paduli recreational area, participants gather for a convivial lunch featuring typical local products, accompanied by musical entertainment. It is an open event that closes the day in a spirit of celebration and discovery of local flavors.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Roseto Valfortore together with the Pro Loco Roseto Valfortore Tourist Association, the AVRV Civil Protection, and local cycling associations such as BikeFortore of San Bartolomeo in Galdo and Green Bike Roseto, with the collaboration and patronage of the neighboring municipalities of Faeto and Castelluccio Valmaggiore. This network effort makes this ride a true driver of cycle tourism for the entire Dauni Mountains area in Puglia.
