The major exhibition and market for mid-century modern and vintage design in Rome
Modern Market is the exhibition and market that has brought an entire world of mid-century modern style, vintage furniture, and designer decor to Rome. The setting is one of the most evocative in the capital: the San Paolo District, the former ATAC depot at Via Alessandro Severo 48, a massive industrial space just a stone's throw from the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls and the Ostiense district. Spanning over 6,000 square meters, this former depot transforms into an urban showroom entirely dedicated to 20th-century collecting and interior design.
The exhibition route is a journey through taste and aesthetics from the 1950s to the 1980s. Along the aisles, you will encounter:
Each edition brings new features, such as the space dedicated to British pub furniture or the green corner with sustainable botanical creations.
Modern Market is not just a trade fair; it is an experience to be savored. A relaxation area is set up with a lounge where you can listen to old vinyl records and enjoy themed DJ sets, while various food trucks serve sweet and savory specialties from breakfast until aperitivo time. Previous editions have also featured workshops and talks with experts, focusing on furniture restoration, color design, and stylistic composition techniques.
Born from the Vintage Market Roma collective, Modern Market caters to both expert collectors and curious visitors looking for the perfect piece to add character to their home. Tickets are affordably priced, and the event spans an entire weekend, with a preview on Friday afternoon and full days on Saturday and Sunday.
The event is held in the Municipality of Rome, the capital of the Metropolitan City of Rome and the Lazio region, in the San Paolo neighborhood near Ostiense, one of the city's most vibrant and trendy areas. Its location, well-served by public transport, makes Modern Market an easy destination to reach and perfect to combine with a walk through industrial archaeology, street art, and local neighborhood bars.
The May 2026 edition of Modern Market took place from May 15 to 17 in the spaces of the San Paolo District, the former ATAC depot at Via Alessandro Severo 48 in Rome. Following the success of the first edition, the event confirmed its formula, transforming the 6,000 square meters of industrial space into a grand showroom of mid-century modern and 20th-century design.
Among the new features of this edition was a space dedicated to English bar furniture with hidden mechanisms and vintage porcelain, alongside the ever-present Scandinavian sideboards, 1970s lamps, and Space Age objects. Completing the experience were the relaxation area with vinyl records and DJ sets, and food trucks open from breakfast through to aperitivo.
