About Mini-Festival of Reading and the Earth

In Medolla, in the province of Modena, the Mini-Festival of Reading and the Earth intertwines books, poetry, and the environment in a spring event spread between the Municipal Library and the San Matteo Naturalistic Oasis. Promoted by the Municipal Library of Medolla, the festival offers meetings with authors and illustrators, writing workshops, sensory experiences immersed in greenery, and activities designed for children, teenagers, and families, with the aim of combining the pleasure of reading with respect for the earth and personal well-being.

A festival that unites books and nature in Medolla

The Mini-Festival of Reading and the Earth is a spring cultural event that takes place in Medolla, a small municipality in the Bassa Modenese area of the province of Modena, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. Organized by the Municipal Library of Medolla, the festival was born with a simple yet profound idea: to show how reading can dialogue with nature, well-being, and environmental care. Activities are held in two symbolic locations in the town, the Municipal Library on Via Genova and the San Matteo Naturalistic Oasis, an ecological restoration area also known for the storks that nest there.

Reading, poetry, and well-being

The program alternates moments dedicated to the written word with immersive experiences in nature. Among the most characteristic offerings are the Silent Book Party, an occasion for shared, silent reading, yoga in nature sessions, and sound baths, true sound immersions designed for relaxation. These are complemented by poetry writing workshops, meetings with authors and illustrators, and nature observation activities for children.

Meetings with authors and illustrators

  • Poetry writing workshops led by the writer Silvia Vecchini;
  • Meeting with illustrator Sonia Maria Luce Possentini, winner of prestigious awards including the Premio Rodari and the Premio Andersen;
  • A exhibition of original drawings by Possentini hosted in the library and open to schools and the public in the weeks following the festival;
  • Reading groups, creative workshops, and storytelling sessions for children, teenagers, and adults.

For families, schools, and the curious

Conceived as a widespread and accessible event, the Mini-Festival actively involves local schools and families, with activities suitable for all ages. Activities are free to enter but require mandatory booking, given the intimate nature of the gatherings. In case of bad weather, outdoor events will be moved to the Municipal Library and the civic auditorium.

A piece of Modena's spring culture

Included in the calendar of spring initiatives of the Municipality of Medolla, the Mini-Festival of Reading and the Earth is an example of local cultural promotion, capable of enhancing both the library's literary heritage and the naturalistic heritage of the San Matteo Oasis. An event that invites readers and visitors to rediscover the link between culture, community, and landscape in the Emilian plain.
