Music, spoken word, and social commitment in the heart of Frattamaggiore
The Mediterraneo Reading Festival is one of the most distinctive cultural events in Frattamaggiore, a town in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania. Launched in 2016, the festival has established itself over the years as a meeting point for music and the spoken word, where singer-songwriter music, theatre, poetry, and social commitment engage without geographical, mental, or cultural boundaries. The artistic direction is led by Jennà Romano, supported by president Quirino Ganzerli and founding members Mimmo Giuliano and Gaetano Vergara.
The festival takes place in the evocative Cloister of the Social Centre on Via Michelarcangelo Lupoli, an intimate space that welcomes the public into a cozy atmosphere, perfect for listening. Evenings typically begin at 8:30 PM, and admission is free until capacity is reached, in line with the popular and inclusive spirit of the event, supported by the Municipality of Frattamaggiore.
What sets the Mediterraneo Reading Festival apart is its commitment to showcasing artists who make research, experimentation, and the fusion of musical languages their signature style. From Italian singer-songwriters to jazz, and from Mediterranean and Middle Eastern music to rock and electronic sounds, the program spans diverse genres and geographies, reflecting the Mediterranean as a crossroads of cultures. There is also a strong focus on poetry, literary readings, and social theatre, making the festival a truly multidisciplinary event.
More than just a concert series, the Mediterraneo Reading Festival has become a cultural landmark for Frattamaggiore and the entire area north of Naples. The quality of the artistic offerings, combined with free admission, makes it a precious opportunity to introduce a wide audience to experimental musical works that are often far from commercial circuits. A festival that continues to grow year after year, preserving its Mediterranean identity and its dedication to the power of the word.
The tenth edition of the Mediterraneo Reading Festival brought two days of singer-songwriter music, experimentation, and world music to Frattamaggiore, reaffirming the festival's commitment to research and the fusion of artistic languages. Admission was free until capacity was reached, under the artistic direction of Jennà Romano, with the patronage of the Municipality of Frattamaggiore.
Opening with four artists in sequence: Cestaro (with Gian Piero Bencivenga on guitar), Massimo Gentile, Luca Forni, and Orefice. The evening continued with Jennà Romano & The Village Musicians, an acoustic ensemble featuring double bass, pedal steel guitar, accordion, and drums, performing both original repertoire and Italian singer-songwriter classics.
Opening with Roman singer-songwriter Lorenzo Lepore, followed by Museo del Limite, a duo from the Veneto region blending rock, electronic, and post-punk sounds. The closing performance was by the NADIR Trio, an ensemble that fuses jazz and Middle Eastern music, featuring the renowned Ares Tavolazzi on double bass.
Frattamaggiore is located north of Naples and can be reached by car via the Asse Mediano and the SS7bis. By train, the town is served by the Frattamaggiore-Grumo Nevano station on the regional line. The Cloister of the Social Centre is located on Via Michelarcangelo Lupoli, in the town centre.
Admission is free until capacity is reached. Evenings generally begin at 8:30 PM. We recommend arriving early to secure a seat.
