The days of Sasso Marconi dedicated to Guglielmo Marconi and the value of communication
Every year, in spring, Sasso Marconi pays homage to its most illustrious citizen, Guglielmo Marconi, inventor of the radio and father of modern telecommunications, with the Marconi Days. The event, promoted by the Municipality of Sasso Marconi in the metropolitan city of Bologna, in Emilia-Romagna, transforms the territory into a widespread laboratory for reflection on the value of communication, intertwining science, culture, memory, and current events.
The festival is rooted in the deep connection between Marconi and these hills: it was right at Villa Griffone, the family residence where the Marconi Museum is now located, that the young Guglielmo conducted his first experiments in wireless telegraphy. From that pioneering act, the era of global communication was born, and it is from here that each edition of the Marconi Days draws inspiration to question how we build, transmit, and preserve collective memory today.
For about two weeks, the Municipality offers a packed calendar of events spread across the Borgo di Colle Ameno, the Municipal Theatre, the Town Hall, and Villa Griffone itself. The public can choose from:
Over the years, the event has brought well-known figures from journalism, television, and entertainment to Sasso Marconi, always maintaining the formula of free admission to all events.
Each edition develops around a central theme. The Marconi Days do not limit themselves to celebrating the past: they address current issues such as the use of social media, the fight against gender-based violence, the responsibility of information, and how communities preserve their history. It is this ability to unite Marconi's legacy with contemporary debates that makes the event a reference point for the Bolognese territory.
Visiting the Marconi Days means discovering a corner of the Bolognese Apennines rich in history and landscape, walking in the places where radio was born, and participating in a quality cultural program at no cost. An ideal opportunity for those who want to combine tourism, culture, and scientific curiosity just a few kilometers from Bologna.
The Marconi Days 2026 chose memory and how communication helps build and pass it on as its central theme. The event opened on Thursday, May 7, with the screening of the docufilm Per sempre giovani about the Salvemini Massacre of 1990, followed by meetings and performances held throughout the area.
Among the most anticipated events were the dialogue with Lella Costa, hosted by Federico Taddia, and the closing meeting on May 19 at Villa Griffone with journalist Giovanna Botteri in conversation with Luca Bottura. There was also space for laughter with "Ridere per non dimenticare" by Danilo Masotti and Gigliola Alvisi, and for civil memory with representatives from ANPI, ANED, and the Marzabotto Committee.
As part of "Visioni marconiane", an off-event in June at Villa Griffone with Princess Elettra Marconi.
Sasso Marconi is located about 15 km from Bologna, along the SS64 Porrettana. It can be reached by train on the Bologna-Porretta line (Sasso Marconi station). By car, take the Sasso Marconi exit on the A1 Autostrada del Sole.
All Marconi Days events are free admission, unless otherwise indicated. Reservations may be recommended for some events.
