About Maratea Carnival

The Maratea Carnival lights up the 'Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea' with two days of festivities: the Children's Carnival at the Polifunzionale Gym and, on Fat Monday, the grand parade of floats and masks through the historic center, featuring costume contests, dancing, and a closing DJ set.

Carnival in the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea

Maratea, Basilicata's only stretch of coast on the Tyrrhenian Sea and a jewel of the province of Potenza, shows its most lively and creative side during Carnival. For two days, the village, famous for the Christ the Redeemer statue and its beaches, transforms into a stage of colors, masks, and joy, with a program designed for both families and younger audiences.

Children's Carnival

The celebration kicks off with the Children's Carnival at the Palestra Polifunzionale (Multipurpose Gym): an afternoon dedicated to the little ones with a solo costume contest, entertainment, and inflatable games, in an indoor, family-friendly environment.

Fat Monday Parade

The highlight arrives with Fat Monday, when the historic center becomes the heart of the celebration: an invasion of masks, dancing, and floats parading through the village alleys. There are also costume contests and the finale with a DJ set by Giovix, for everyone to dance and close the Maratea Carnival in festive style.

Feast and Landscape

Experiencing Carnival in Maratea means combining the lightheartedness of the festival with the unique scenery of the Lucanian Tyrrhenian coast, between the perched historic center, the sea, and the panoramas that have made this location famous. An opportunity to discover Maratea even outside the summer season.
