Two days of railway layouts and military modeling in the Sala della Pace at Palazzo Valentini
Mani in Movimento – Model Making Exhibition at Palazzo Valentini is an event that brings the art of miniature construction to the heart of Rome. The exhibition takes place in the prestigious Sala della Pace at Palazzo Valentini, the headquarters of the Metropolitan City of Rome, located at Via IV Novembre 119/A, just a short walk from Trajan's Forum and Piazza Venezia in the city's historic center.
The exhibition brings together expert modelers from all over Italy, who showcase their entirely handmade creations. The display ranges from railway modeling, featuring layouts with electric trains running on miniature tracks through meticulously detailed landscapes, to military modeling, with vehicles and equipment reproduced with great historical and technical precision.
The highlight of Mani in Movimento is the direct interaction between the public and the modelers. Visitors can approach the tables, ask questions, and learn the secrets of the craft: how a simple piece of plastic or wood becomes, step by step, a finished object rich in detail. The initiative aims to raise awareness among young people and families about the importance of creative manual activities, presenting model making as a healthy remedy to digital saturation and an educational tool for all ages.
Hosting the exhibition at Palazzo Valentini adds a special charm to the event: the building, an institutional seat of the Metropolitan City of Rome, houses the famous Domus Romane in its basement, a testament to ancient Rome. The event, promoted within an institutional framework and organized by the Associazione Memorabilia APS, thus combines culture, artisanal tradition, and a passion for collecting in the Municipality of Rome, in the Lazio region.
Admission to the exhibition is free, making this world of patience, precision, and craftsmanship accessible to everyone—enthusiasts, curious visitors, and families with children. An event designed for those who love trains, the history of military vehicles, and, more generally, the art of building with one's own hands.
On May 7 and 8, 2026, the Sala della Pace at Palazzo Valentini hosted Mani in Movimento, an exhibition dedicated to the art of model making. Under the theme "the art of model making as a healthy remedy to digital saturation," the exhibition brought together modelers from every corner of Italy with railway layouts animated by electric trains and historically accurate military vehicle reproductions. Free admission and the opportunity for the public to engage with the builders and discover the techniques of the craft.
