The Pro Loco Carnival in the square of Mala, in the Mòcheni Valley
The Mala Square Carnival is the festive event that brings the hamlet of Mala to life in the municipality of Sant'Orsola Terme, in the province of Trento, in the heart of the Mòcheni Valley. It is a popular local gathering that transforms the square into a festive space filled with color, music, and entertainment, designed especially for families and the entire mountain community.
The event is managed by the Pro Loco Sant'Orsola, with the collaboration of the Sant'Orsola Youth Group and the Malà Choral Group. These local associations ensure the organization of the day, from the kitchen to the entertainment, in a spirit of volunteerism and strong local identity that has always characterized the valley's communities.
The festival revolves around two main elements: convivial dining and the parade. The Pro Loco kitchen prepares simple, genuine specialties of the Trentino tradition, including gnocchi, sausages, desserts, and drinks, while in the afternoon, the square is crossed by a carnival float, the most anticipated and spectacular moment of the event.
Mala is one of the hamlets of Sant'Orsola Terme, the most populous municipality in the Mòcheni Valley, a mountain area in Valsugana inhabited by a historic German-speaking minority that has settled in these lands since the Middle Ages. The valley, famous for its berry cultivation and thermal waters, preserves traditions and village festivals that, like this Carnival, strengthen the sense of belonging and community life in Trentino-Alto Adige.
Far from the large city carnivals, the Mala event maintains the authentic dimension of a village festival: a simple and cheerful afternoon where residents, families, and visitors gather in the square to celebrate the end of winter together, amidst good food, masks, and the color of a float parading through the crowd.
On Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 12:00 PM, the square of the hamlet of Mala, in Sant'Orsola Terme, hosted the 2026 edition of the Square Carnival. The Pro Loco Sant'Orsola kitchen prepared gnocchi, sausages, desserts, and drinks, while in the afternoon, the square was crossed by the carnival float, the highlight of the festival.
The Sant'Orsola Youth Group and the Malà Choral Group collaborated on the organization, enlivening the day with music and entertainment in a festive atmosphere for families and children, in the true spirit of the Mòcheni Valley community.
