Three days when Costa di Mezzate becomes an open-air theatre
Every May, Costa di Mezzate, a small municipality in the province of Bergamo, transforms into a large, spread-out theatre. Magie al Borgo — International Street Art Festival is considered one of the most important street art events in Italy: for three days, the streets, squares, and courtyards of the historic centre host jugglers, acrobats, contemporary circus, dance, and street theatre. The goal, in the words of the organisers, is to make the boundary between audience and artists vanish, turning the village into a "zone of wonder".
The programming is of international calibre. Recent editions have brought leading names in world contemporary circus to Costa di Mezzate, such as the British company Gandini Juggling with the show "Smashed" and Motionhouse with "Wild", alongside companies from Mexico and Spain, and Italian realities like Circo Bottoni and Agua und Fire. Each edition features several international and national premieres, making the festival a cutting-edge showcase for contemporary circus theatre.
Artistically directed by Lorenzo Baronchelli and organised by the association Feste in Costa, the festival is also an extraordinary example of popular participation: around 250 volunteers make the event possible, supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Municipality of Costa di Mezzate, the Province of Bergamo, and the Terre del Vescovado area. Admission to all shows is free.
Magie al Borgo is an opportunity to experience the best of international street art in an intimate and welcoming setting, far from the big cities. A festival that combines artistic quality and community warmth, ideal for families and anyone who loves live outdoor performances.
The 24th edition of Magie al Borgo will animate Costa di Mezzate from May 22 to 24, 2026, with 18 shows, including 4 international and 4 national premieres. The programme brings to the village some of the most important names in contemporary circus and world street art, with companies from the UK, Mexico, Spain, and Italy. Artistic direction is by Lorenzo Baronchelli; the organisation by the Feste in Costa association involves around 250 volunteers. The festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture.
