The religious and popular festival in honor of the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel in Casoli

The Madonna del Carmine Festival is one of the most attended religious celebrations in the municipality of Casoli, in the province of Chieti, in the heart of Abruzzo. Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, the festival combines liturgical reflection with the popular and convivial dimension typical of Abruzzese traditions, bringing together locals and pilgrims from neighboring towns around a deeply felt tradition passed down from generation to generation.
The uniqueness of the Casoli celebration lies in its articulation across different moments throughout the summer. The prologue takes place on the last Sunday of June, when the effigy of the Madonna is carried in a solemn procession through the town streets and then displayed in the Parish Church, where it remains for the veneration of the faithful. The central day is July 16th, the liturgical feast of the Madonna del Carmine, celebrated with religious services in honor of the Virgin.
The most evocative moment arrives on the first Saturday of August, when the sacred image is returned to the Sanctuary of the Carmine, located in the Colle Marco district, with a heartfelt nighttime procession illuminated by torches. The festivities continue on Sunday morning with religious celebrations and, traditionally, with evening social events in the space in front of the Sanctuary, featuring music and moments of conviviality that involve the entire community.
Casoli is a village that overlooks the middle Aventino valley, at the foot of the Majella, dominated by the evocative Ducal Castle. The town preserves a rich heritage of religious festivals and traditions: alongside the Madonna del Carmine, the people of Casoli also cherish their devotion to Saint Reparata, virgin and martyr of Caesarea, a testament to the deep spiritual bonds that characterize this Abruzzese land. The Madonna del Carmine Festival thus fits into a summer calendar that intertwines faith, memory, and community.

The detailed calendar will be released by the Municipality of Casoli and the parish in the weeks leading up to the event.
