Electronic music and digital art between Matera and Potenza
MA/IN Festival — an acronym for MAtera INtermedia — is one of the most recognized Italian reviews in the field of contemporary electroacoustic music, sound art, and digital art. Born from the association LOXOSconcept APS, based in Pignola (PZ), the festival has for years intertwined the cities of Matera and Potenza, often extending to the Salento region, in a cultural axis between Basilicata and Puglia.
The heart of the festival is intermediality: acousmatic concerts, dialogues between acoustic instruments and electronics, audiovisual performances, sound installations, and transmedia works. The programming, built through international open calls, brings together established composers and young authors, providing space for advanced and experimental research, far from the more commercial circuits.
Curated by an artistic direction attentive to contemporary music trends, MA/IN brings artists from all over the world to the region's halls and unconventional spaces. The choice of evocative locations — cinemas, theaters, underground auditoriums — amplifies the listening experience, making Basilicata a reference point for electroacoustic music in Southern Italy.
With its tenth-anniversary edition, the festival accompanies the season of Matera Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue, confirming an international vocation that ideally dialogues with the themes of 2026. In collaboration with the Municipalities of Matera and Potenza, MA/IN reiterates that sound research can be a universal language capable of connecting different territories and audiences.
MA/IN Festival 2026 celebrates its tenth edition. The review is divided into two phases: a stop in Salento between Castrignano de' Greci and Lecce from September 24 to 27, and the Lucanian stop between Matera and Potenza from September 29 to October 3. Scheduled are electroacoustic and acousmatic music, sound art, transmedia and performative art, with works selected through an international open call (application deadline April 2026).
The complete artistic program for the tenth-anniversary edition will be finalized following the international open call and published on the official website. The planned structure includes:
