The Lumberjack Festival in Campotosto

The Lumberjack Festival is a summer event held in Campotosto, a small town in the province of L'Aquila perched at an altitude of over 1,400 meters within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. The event was created to celebrate the traditions, skills, and crafts linked to the forest and the agro-silvo-pastoral world, which are the identity heritage of a mountain territory defined by forests, alpine pastures, and high-altitude life. The event takes place in the town's sports field area and, for two days, transforms the village into a showcase of the skills and culture of the Abruzzo mountains.

A festival dedicated to the world of the forest

The heart of the event is the lumberjack triathlon, a competition that tests the strength, precision, and technique of participants in typical timber-cutting trials. Alongside the competitions, there are technical demonstrations dedicated to forest tools and processing, moments of discussion on the future of the agro-silvo-pastoral sector, and activities designed to introduce people to an ancient trade that continues to thrive in the mountains of the Gran Sasso and the Laga.

Gastronomy, music, and families

Alongside the competitions, the Festival offers food stalls featuring the typical flavors of Abruzzo mountain cuisine, live musical entertainment, and a festive atmosphere that involves both residents and visitors. There is no shortage of offerings for children, with inflatables and recreational activities, as well as an area dedicated to off-road enthusiasts. The formula thus combines sport, tradition, good food, and fun in a setting of great natural charm.

Campotosto and its lake

The event is promoted by the Municipality of Campotosto, the Pro Loco Campotosto, and the Vivere la Montagna Association, with the support of local entities. Campotosto is famous for its large lake, the largest artificial body of water in Abruzzo, protected by a nature reserve within the national park. The Lumberjack Festival is an opportunity to discover this authentic corner of the L'Aquila hinterland, between excursions, panoramic views, and the genuine hospitality of mountain communities.
