Opera at the Rocca of Lonato del Garda
The La Bottega della Lirica project brings opera to the extraordinary setting of the Visconti-Venetian Fortress of Lonato del Garda, in the province of Brescia, every summer. The initiative, dedicated to the training and promotion of young singers, stages a title from the great operatic repertoire within the fortress walls, one of the most imposing in Lombardy.
From Competition to Stage
The heart of the project is the International Lyric Competition, which each year selects the young performers destined to take the stage. They are the protagonists of the summer production: a journey that combines competition, advanced training, and stage debut, supported by the La Bottega della Lirica Association.
A Growing Tradition
Over the years, the festival has presented various titles from the repertoire: Donizetti's Don Pasquale in 2024, Puccini's La Bohème in 2025, and, in 2026, Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto. Attending an opera at the Rocca of Lonato means experiencing Italian melodrama in a unique historical context, where music dialogues with architecture and the landscape of Lake Garda.
Lonato Opera — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of Lonato del Garda Opera / La Bottega della Lirica is dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto, staged in the second half of July at the Visconti-Venetian Fortress of Lonato del Garda. The protagonists are the young singers selected through the International Lyric Competition held in early 2026.
Among the competition winners, tenor Paolo Delai has secured the role of the Duke of Mantua.
Programme Lonato Opera 2026
The title for the 2026 edition is Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto, a three-act opera with a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. The production is performed by the young winning singers of the International Lyric Competition of La Bottega della Lirica.

Getting there
Lonato del Garda is accessible from the A4 Milan-Venice motorway (Desenzano-Sirmione or Brescia Est exit) and from the train station on the Milan-Venice line. The Rocca is located at Via Rocca 2, in the historic center.
