Living Passion in Vallecorsa

A small Jerusalem in the heart of Ciociaria

Every year, in the period leading up to Easter, the medieval village of Vallecorsa, in the province of Frosinone, transforms into a small Jerusalem made of narrow alleys, stone, silence, torches, and collective presence. The Living Passion in Vallecorsa is one of the most heartfelt historical-religious re-enactments in southern Lazio: not just a simple theatrical performance, but a true communal ritual where the local population stages the final moments of Jesus' life, with dozens of actors in meticulously recreated period costumes.

The path of the Passion

The performance winds through the historic center and retraces the most well-known and poignant passages of the Passion of Christ, set in a natural scenery that amplifies everything: the landscape, the tension, and the atmosphere of prayer. The main scenes are:

• The Last Supper, which opens the spiritual and narrative journey of the evening;
• The Garden of Gethsemane, a moment of prayer and anticipation;
• The Trial, with the sentence pronounced by Pontius Pilate;
• The Via Crucis, the ascent towards "Calvary" through the alleys and staircases of the village;
• The Crucifixion, the emotional and spiritual climax of the performance.

The experience unfolds through scenic installations, period costumes, and the light of torches, in an itinerant path capable of touching the audience even without the need for grand special effects.

A ritual that involves the whole town

The strength of the Living Passion of Vallecorsa lies in its choral dimension: the characters of the Gospel are not played by professional actors but by the inhabitants of the town themselves, who, generation after generation, renew a tradition deeply rooted in the religious and cultural identity of the community. The event attracts hundreds of faithful, curious onlookers, and tourists from all over the province of Frosinone and the rest of Lazio every year.

Vallecorsa, a thousand-year-old village in the Ausoni Mountains

The Municipality of Vallecorsa, with just over two thousand inhabitants in the Ausoni Mountains, on the border between Ciociaria and the Fondi plain, is a village of ancient origins known for its evocative olive terraces supported by dry-stone walls, the so-called "macere", and for being the birthplace of Saint Maria De Mattias. Its historic center, perched on a hill and rich in medieval corners, offers the re-enactment a natural backdrop of rare charm: attending the Living Passion is also an opportunity to discover one of the most authentic villages in southern Lazio.

When it takes place

The Living Passion is held during the Easter period. The 2026 edition took place on Saturday, March 28th, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with free admission along the entire route in the historic center.
