Five days of living memory in the squares of the historic center of Genoa
Eraora is the widespread Liberation festival of Genoa, in its first edition in 2026. The idea behind it is simple and powerful: to transform the April 25th anniversary from a ritual ceremony into a great participatory cultural celebration, a "May Day of Liberation" where memory is practiced through popular food, music, walking, readings, writing, and theater.
For five days, from April 21st to 25th, the festival traverses the historic center of Genoa with a single path connecting squares, cloisters, and urban spaces. Seven stops, from Piazza Don Gallo to Piazza Sarzano, host music, public writing, readings, podcasts, workshops, theater, and collective practices, in continuous dialogue between historical memory and city life.
Among the events, on April 24th in Piazza San Giorgio, there's Live Podcast – Memory and Narration, with the recording of an episode dedicated to the Liberation of Genoa. On April 25th, the show "True Stories of Freedom" by Teatranti Nautici and, in the evening, the grand concert by Paolo Fresu and Daniele Di Bonaventura at the Giardini Luzzati. In Piazza Don Gallo, a space dedicated to children and families with the show "The Partisan's Backpack".
Promoted by the Municipality of Genoa on the 81st anniversary of the Liberation, Eraora aims to make anti-fascist memory a living and shared experience, capable of speaking to all generations. A festival that restores to April 25th its dimension as a popular and cultural celebration, in the heart of a city awarded a gold medal for the Resistance.
The 2026 edition of Eraora, the first one, transforms April 25th into a five-day widespread festival, from April 21st to 25th, in the historic center of Genoa. The festival practices the memory of the Liberation through music, theater, readings, writing, podcasts, and popular food, along a single path through squares, cloisters, and urban spaces.
Seven stops, from Piazza Don Gallo to Piazza Sarzano, host the events, which culminate on April 25th with the concert by Paolo Fresu and Daniele Di Bonaventura at the Giardini Luzzati.
Genoa's historic center is reachable on foot from the Genova Brignole and Genova Principe stations and from the San Giorgio and De Ferrari metro stops. The festival venues are located between Piazza Don Gallo and Piazza Sarzano.
Events are free to attend. The complete program with the seven stops and times is distributed on the Municipality of Genoa's channels.
