Don Quixote Returns to the Stage in Matera

"Le Tragicomiche Venture di Chisciotte" is the theatrical performance hosted by IAC Centro Arti Integrate in Matera, one of the most vibrant realities of contemporary Lucanian theatre. The staging reinterprets the Cervantean myth with a tragicomic tone: Quixote and Sancho come back to life and, riding their unlikely mechanical steeds, embark on amazing adventures, balancing between laughter and melancholy.

Part of "Il Teatro che Cresce"

The performance is part of the "Il Teatro che Cresce" project, the contemporary theatre review that IAC promotes in Matera from January to May and beyond, designed to bring citizens closer to the stage and to foster encounters between tradition and innovation. This programming has made IAC a stable cultural hub during the months when the city lives its season as European Capital of Culture.

The event includes two evening performances, offering the audience more opportunities to attend the play. The chosen language, blending physical comedy and stage mechanisms, makes the performance accessible and engaging, true to the spirit of a classic that has been staging the contrast between dream and reality for centuries.

In a Matera that in 2026 focuses on dialogue between cultures, the choice to revisit Don Quixote, a figure born in Spain and become universal heritage, ideally dialogues with the Euro-Mediterranean vocation of the Capital of Culture. IAC thus confirms its role in the city's cultural fabric, in collaboration with the Municipality of Matera.
