The literary festival that crosses the neighbourhoods of Matera
At Amabili Confini, books don't wait for readers in a room: they go looking for them. Matera's literary festival is, first and foremost, a social regeneration project that brings authors and stories into the city's districts and peripheries, transforming squares, villas, and neighbourhood spaces into meeting places. Each event starts with a selection of texts chosen by the community, followed by a dialogue with the guest writer: a true "urban osmosis".
The eleventh edition, scheduled between May and June 2026, revolves around the theme of the "Labyrinth", explored in four sections: the stories of the neighbourhoods, poetry on the theme, voices from places of detention and care, and contributions from other regions. Seven events that cross Matera from one end to the other, from the centre to the neighbourhoods of Serra Venerdì, Lanera, and Serra Rifusa.
The programme brings together leading authors: Antonio Moresco, Ilaria Palomba, Edoardo Camurri, Liliana Rampello, Laura Marzi, Piergiorgio Pulixi, and Teresa Ciabatti. A lineup that blends novels, poetry, essays, and civil engagement, true to the festival's mission of fostering dialogue between great literature and often marginalised territories.
Amabili Confini is an event organised without public funding, supported by private partners, with free admission to all meetings. This choice reaffirms its civic and community nature, rooted in the city of Matera.
The 2026 edition of Amabili Confini, the eleventh, brings Matera's literary festival to the city's neighbourhoods from May 8 to June 16, on the theme of the "Labyrinth". Seven meetings, each preceded by a selection of texts from the community, give voice to authors and districts in a journey of urban osmosis.
