About Lavender Festival

Every year in early July, the Lavender Festival brings the hills of Arlena di Castro to life. Located in the Tuscia region of Viterbo, Agriturismo La Piantata opens its famous, fully blooming lavender fields to the public. Enjoy three days of strolling through purple rows, creative workshops, sunset aperitifs, aerial performances, and nature trails leading to an Etruscan tomb. An immersive, sensory experience blending nature, wellness, and local products amidst the rolling hills of Lazio.

The Lavender Festival in Arlena di Castro

Every year in early July, Agriturismo La Piantata in Arlena di Castroโ€”nestled in the heart of the Tuscia Viterbese region (Lazio)โ€”celebrates the peak of the lavender bloom with the Lavender Festival. For three days, the vast purple expanse cultivated on the volcanic hills of northern Lazio becomes the backdrop for one of the most anticipated sensory events of the summer season.

A lavender field between hills and treehouses

La Piantata is renowned far beyond regional borders for its organic lavender fields and its famous treehouses tucked away in the countryside. During the Lavender Festival, visitors can wander through the blooming rows, breathe in the intense fragrance of the plants at their peak, and discover how lavender is cultivated, harvested, and transformed into essential oils, cosmetics, and local artisanal products.

Experiences, workshops, and wellness

The program blends nature, culture, and wellness. Recurring highlights of the event include:

  • Nature Trail: A botanical-archaeological path of about 1.2 km leading to a 4th-century BC Etruscan tomb and the entrance to the lavender fields;
  • Creative workshops featuring botanical watercolor painting and artisanal lavender soap making;
  • Yoga sessions and guided walks with an agronomist to learn about the cultivation process;
  • Sunset aperitifs in the fields and by the pool, accompanied by aerial performances;
  • Tastings and sales of local products and lavender-based cosmetics.

In the heart of the Tuscia Viterbese

The Lavender Festival is part of the broader tourist appeal of the Tuscia region, a land of medieval villages, Etruscan necropolises, and rural landscapes. Located between Arlena di Castro and nearby Tuscania, La Piantata attracts nature lovers, photography enthusiasts, and experiential travelers from all over Lazio and beyond every summer. The lavender bloom, which reaches its peak between late June and mid-July, offers one of the most evocative natural spectacles in the region.

An event by reservation

As this event is hosted on a working farm, many activities require reservations and have limited capacity to ensure an intimate experience in direct contact with nature. The festival is suitable for families and those seeking a day outdoors away from the crowds.
