The off-site wine event of the Marche region in the heart of Ancona
Vinitaly and the City – Marche in Wine is the widespread, popular version of the most important international wine exhibition, which for the first time in its history arrives in Ancona, the capital of the Marche Region. Announced on April 14, 2026, in Verona during the 58th edition of Vinitaly, the Marche event brings three days of tastings, meetings, and performances open to everyone to the historic centre of the capital, with the entire city tinged with the purple symbol of the event.
Unlike the trade fair reserved for operators, Vinitaly and the City is designed for the end consumer: enthusiasts, the curious, families, and tourists can stroll through the historic squares and palaces of Ancona, discovering the labels of Marche producers directly from the tasting counters. The format includes tastings, guided masterclasses, talks, mixology, and musical entertainment, organised along a route that highlights the most evocative locations in the city centre.
The heart of the event is the extraordinary variety of regional wines: from Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and Verdicchio di Matelica to Rosso Conero, from Conero DOCG to the denominations of the Piceno area such as Rosso Piceno and Passerina, as well as Lacrima di Morro d'Alba and Pecorino. A heritage that tells the story of the territories, native grape varieties, and the work of the wineries in the Marche region.
The event is promoted by Veronafiere together with the Marche Region, the Istituto Marchigiano di Tutela Vini (Marche Wine Protection Institute), and the Consorzio Vini Piceni (Piceno Wines Consortium), with the involvement of Azienda Turismo Marche and the Municipality of Ancona. As highlighted by the President of the Marche Region, Francesco Acquaroli, the goal is not only to promote wine but also to enhance the entire enogastronomic, cultural, and environmental heritage of the territory, creating synergies with local economic and commercial realities.
The choice of Ancona, a port city on the Adriatic Sea and Italian Capital of Culture 2028, confirms the intention to link wine to the broader narrative of the Marche region. The historic centre, with its squares and palaces, provides a natural backdrop for an event that combines oenological quality, culture, and hospitality, aimed at both the local public and national and international visitors.
At the time of the announcement, the exact dates and detailed schedule of events had not yet been published: the event is scheduled for autumn, likely in October 2026. Precise dates, specific venues, the list of wineries, and how to purchase tasting packages will be communicated by the organisers in the weeks preceding the event.
