The end-of-summer feast in the hamlet of Lucino, Rodano
In the hamlet of Lucino, in Rodano (Metropolitan City of Milan, Lombardy), the Lanternin Festival annually marks the transition between summer and autumn, on the threshold of the new school year. It's a popular feast in the truest sense: born from the commitment of many parish volunteers who animate the oratory space to offer the community some evenings of good food and fun.
Like its summer counterpart, the Lanternin also focuses on Lombard peasant traditional cuisine. The signature dish is donkey braised with polenta, a recipe from the lowlands rooted in the agricultural economy of the past, when donkey meat was a precious resource for poor kitchens. The parish space has about 250 seats, and the restaurant opens every evening at 7:00 PM.
After dinner, the feast continues: from 9:00 PM, a dancing evening with an orchestra entertains the attendees, while the prize wheel and crêpes complete the program. It's the typical atmosphere of village festivals in the Milan area, where you dine with neighbors and then dance, in a convivial spirit that unites generations.
The Lanternin Festival is much more than a gastronomic event: it's a gathering moment for the community of Lucino and Rodano, and an opportunity for those coming from Milan to discover an authentic corner of the Lombard countryside and its culinary traditions.
