Carnival Sundays in the heart of the home of brigidini
In the heart of Tuscany, nestled between the slopes of Montalbano and the Padule di Fucecchio, the Lamporecchio Carnival transforms the town center into an open-air stage. For several Sundays between February and early March, the main streets of this town in the Province of Pistoia are filled with allegorical floats, masks, music, and joy, in a celebration designed for families, children, and curious visitors of all ages.
The heart of the event lies in the allegorical floats, built and brought to the streets by the Amici del Trattore association. The association's decision to invest in their own floats has turned the Carnival into a permanent and reliable fixture on the town's calendar: no longer relying on borrowed structures, they now feature their own floats that parade among the crowds, creating a festive and lively atmosphere. The floats traverse the central streets accompanied by costumed participants and the public, in a colorful procession that is the most anticipated moment of every Sunday.
Beyond the parade, the Lamporecchio Carnival offers inflatables for children, entertainment, and numerous food stalls. You cannot miss the brigidini, the thin anise-flavored wafers that have made the town famous throughout Tuscany and are a true local institution here, alongside porchetta, crêpes, and cotton candy. The event is the result of the hard work of various local entities: alongside the Amici del Trattore and the municipal administration, the Croce Verde of Lamporecchio provides medical assistance and the Civil Protection ensures safety, confirming how deeply rooted the event is in the town's social fabric.
Lamporecchio, with just over seven thousand inhabitants immersed in the Tuscan hills, is known throughout Italy for its brigidini, sweets traditionally created by the nuns of Santa Brigida. The Carnival adds a popular festive dimension to this gastronomic identity, attracting residents and visitors from neighboring towns and renewing a tradition that today, thanks to the association's own floats, has become a stable and lasting event.
The 2026 edition marked a turning point for the Lamporecchio Carnival: the Amici del Trattore association purchased the allegorical floats, transforming the event into a fixed and reliable appointment for the town. The festival was spread over four consecutive Sundays, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, enlivening the central streets of the municipality.
Alongside the float parade, the program featured inflatables for children, entertainment, and numerous food stalls serving brigidini, porchetta, crêpes, and cotton candy. The organization benefited from the collaboration of the Municipality of Lamporecchio, the local Croce Verde for medical assistance, and the Civil Protection for safety.
