Art, crafts, traditions, and flavors in the village of Roccagloriosa
There is no edition scheduled in 2026 for this event. This page remains accessible to archive the history of the manifestation and will be updated if a new edition is announced.
Every summer, the historic center of Roccagloriosa, a small town in the Province of Salerno overlooking the hinterland of the Gulf of Policastro, in the heart of Cilento and Campania, transforms for three evenings into a large, widespread exhibition. La Rocca delle Arti does not take place in a pavilion or on a single stage: you walk, climb, and descend through stone alleys, pause in small squares, and enter churches and historic spaces where every corner hosts an artwork, an artisan at work, or a tasting. It is this diffused format, rather than a lineup of big names, that makes the event a standout in the Cilento summer calendar.
The festival began in 2010 as a local cultural initiative and grew year by year: by 2013 it celebrated its fourth edition, and by 2017 its eighth, organized in collaboration with the Proloco and the municipal administration. In 2018, the organizing group became an association, which now manages the event entirely through self-management and the voluntary work of dozens of people. The 2025 edition reached its thirteenth year, closing with approximately 12,000 visitors: an all-time record for the event.
The heart of the festival is the direct relationship between the public and the creators. Along the route, you will find:
The gastronomic aspect is not just a side note: the stalls and taste workshops showcase the products of inland Cilento, from honey to extra virgin olive oil, local wines, traditional cheeses, preserved vegetables, figs, and cured meats. A place of honor is reserved for the Roccagloriosa torroncino, known as the "wedding nougat" because it was traditionally prepared for wedding banquets. Past editions have featured guided tastings dedicated to local honeys and oils, led by local producers.
Roccagloriosa is no ordinary village: on its heights once stood an important Lucanian settlement, and findings from excavationsโfunerary goods with gold, silver, and bronze objects from the 4th and 3rd centuries BCโare preserved in the town. During the event, the "Antonella Fiammenghi" Museum on Via Borgo Sant'Antonio and the Antiquarium dedicated to Sabato Balbi in Piazza del Popolo remain open to the public: a choice that links the contemporary festival to the ancient history of the place.
Each edition revolves around a central theme that guides the exhibitions and installations. In 2025, the theme was "Re(L)Azioni," a play on words combining relationships, actions, and reactions. According to the association's president, Anna Maria Tripari, "relationship is communication; it is knowing the other, confronting, and allowing oneself to be influenced." It is a way to provide unity to a proposal that might otherwise risk being just a collection of stalls and stands.
In July 2026, the association announced that the 2026 edition will not be held: "due to organizational needs and internal reasons, we have decided to take a break this year." This is a pause year dedicated to reorganization and planning for future activities, not a permanent closure. The organizers have already set the return: see you in 2027.
Those visiting Cilento in August usually find only the sea and coastal food festivals. La Rocca delle Arti offers an inland alternative: a village of a few hundred inhabitants that lights up for three evenings with a slow rhythm, no large structures, and an audience arriving from all over the Province of Salerno. Those looking for authentic craftsmanship, local cuisine, and an evening stroll through illuminated alleys will find one of the most genuine experiences of the Campanian summer here.
In July 2026, the La Rocca delle Arti association announced that there will be no event in Roccagloriosa this year. The wording in the announcement is clear: "due to organizational needs and internal reasons, we have decided to stop for this year." The festival, which reached its record attendance in 2025, is skipping an edition after thirteen successful years.
The association works entirely on a voluntary and self-managed basis: the break is intended to organize ideas and projects and to prepare for a return that meets expectations. In the announcement, the organizers thanked the supporters, collaborators, volunteers, artists, and participants who have made the festival's growth possible over the years.
The message ends with an explicit farewell: "See you in 2027." Those who had planned a visit to Roccagloriosa in August 2026 for the festival must reorganize their plans; the village remains open for visits, as do the two archaeological museums housing the findings from the Lucanian settlement.
In the historic center of Roccagloriosa (SA), 84060, inland Cilento, Province of Salerno, Campania. The route winds through alleys, squares, and historic spaces of the village, with changes in elevation and stone paving: comfortable shoes are recommended.
During the evenings, the village is closed to traffic: you can park in the designated areas on the outskirts of the town, and a free shuttle service takes visitors to the entrance of the historic center. This is the most convenient solution, as parking spaces in the village are very limited.
The evenings traditionally begin around 8:30 PM and continue until late at night. Local sources do not mention an admission fee for the event: you only pay for what you consume or purchase at the food and craft stands.
Accommodation in the village is limited: many visitors stay on the Gulf of Policastro coast (Marina di Camerota, Palinuro, Scario, Sapri) or in inland farmhouses. In August, it is advisable to book well in advance.
