About La Mitica
On the roads of the Campionissimo
La Mitica is a non-competitive vintage cycling event held every year on the last weekend of June in Castellania Coppi, a tiny village in the Tortona hills in the province of Alessandria (Piedmont). It is the birthplace of Fausto Coppi, the 'Campionissimo', and his brother Serse: cycling here means retracing the climbs and white gravel roads that forged one of the greatest cyclists of all time.
The heroic spirit of cycling
To participate, you need a vintage bicycle built before 1987 and period clothing: wool jerseys, aluminum water bottles, and steel frames. It is not a race against the clock, but a journey through time that celebrates the charm of old-school cycling, with sections of white gravel roads that evoke the feats of the heroic years.
The three routes
The event offers three tracks to choose from, all starting and finishing in Castellania Coppi:
- Short route — approx. 55 km, suitable for those who want to soak up the atmosphere without too much effort.
- Medium route — approx. 71 km, featuring the first rolling hills.
- Hors Catégorie — approx. 98 km with nearly 900 meters of elevation gain, touching Volpedo, Tortona, the Gavi vineyards, Villa La Bollina, and tackling the famous Rampina climb.
A celebration for the region
La Mitica is much more than a cycling rally: it is a widespread event that enlivens the Tortona area for an entire week, with book presentations, biographical evenings, poster exhibitions, and the unmissable Agnolotto Party at the Corte di Casa Coppi. Included in the Giro d'Italia d'Epoca circuit (of which it is the only Piedmontese stage) and Le Classiche del Nord, it attracts enthusiasts from all over Italy and abroad. It is organized by the Associazione I Colli di Coppi, which promotes the area's cycling itineraries.

Between historic villages, Gavi vineyards, white gravel roads, and the legacy of the Campionissimo, La Mitica offers a one-of-a-kind experience in all of Piedmont: cycling slowly, immersed in the landscape and the memory of legendary cycling, only to find yourself at the table in front of a plate of agnolotti.
La Mitica — edition 2026
The 2026 edition confirms La Mitica as the only Piedmontese stage of the Giro d'Italia d'Epoca. The focus is on the weekend of June 27–28 in Castellania Coppi, but the event opens with cultural appointments in the preceding days, including book presentations dedicated to cycling, a theatrical evening, and an exhibition of posters signed by Riccardo Guasco. Sunday is dedicated to the vintage ride on the three routes, with refreshment points along the track and the convivial party at the finish line.

Thursday, June 11 — Fermento Hub, Tortona
- 6:30 PM — Presentation of the 2026 edition with "Enjoy the Trail" on mountain biking; presentation of the book Michele Scarponi. Profondo come una salita with Alessandra Giardini and Marco Scarponi, moderated by journalist Gino Cervi; exhibition of La Mitica posters signed by Riccardo Guasco. Friday, June 26 — Belvedere di Paderna
- 7:00 PM — Presentation of the book Jacques Anquetil. Il Sultano by Beppe Conti.
- 8:00 PM — Aperitif-dinner.
- 9:00 PM — Theatrical show L'Ultima Malabrocca with Serena Malabrocca (narration), Roberto Pellegrino (accordion), and Fabrizio Ofria (percussion).
Saturday, June 27 — Castellania Coppi
- 10:30 AM — Opening of the vintage bicycle and clothing market.
- 3:00 PM–6:00 PM — Registration and race pack collection.
- 8:00 PM — Dinner by Fuga di Sapori (reservations: [email protected]).
Sunday, June 28 — Ride Day
- 6:30 AM–8:00 AM — On-site registration in Castellania Coppi.
- 8:30 AM — Single start for the three routes (55, 71, 98 km).
- Refreshments: Volpedo (10:30 AM), Tortona (11:00 AM), with assistance also in Serravalle Scrivia and Villalvernia.
- 12:20 PM — Agnolotto Party at the Corte di Casa Coppi.
- 4:00 PM — Awards ceremony.

How to get there
Castellania Coppi can be reached by car from the Tortona motorway exit (A7/A21), continuing towards the Tortona hills. The most convenient train station is Tortona, from which the village is just a few kilometers away.

Online registration from February 20 to June 21 via the official website; on-site registration in Castellania Coppi on Saturday afternoon (3:00 PM–6:00 PM) and Sunday morning (6:30 AM–8:00 AM).

Tips
