Two priests from Bergamo in the Resistance, staged at the Teatro San Carlo of Caravaggio
On the eve of the April 25th celebrations, the Teatro San Carlo in Caravaggio, in the province of Bergamo, presents a thought-provoking performance: Là dove finisce il buio, part of the theatre season curated by deSidera Teatro. It is a work that speaks of the Resistance, but above all of courage and personal choices in difficult times.
At the center of the narrative are two priests from Bergamo, Don Bepo Vavassori and Don Antonio Seghezzi, and their commitment alongside soldiers and young people during World War II. Don Seghezzi was imprisoned, condemned, and deported to Dachau, where he died shortly after the camp's liberation in 1945. Two figures whose beatification causes are still ongoing, told here in a theatrical and civic context.
The performance is written by Marialuisa Miraglia, directed and performed by Stefano Panzeri, with original guitar music by Simone Riva. The production is by deSidera / Teatro de Gli Incamminati, with co-production by the Fondazione Adriano Bernareggi and support from the Municipality of Osio Sotto, under the patronage of the Diocese of Bergamo.
The event, with free admission and prior booking, confirms the role of the Teatro San Carlo as a cultural hub for Caravaggio and the Bassa Bergamasca region, capable of staging important themes with accessible and high-quality language.
The 2026 edition of the performance takes place on Wednesday, April 22nd, at 8:45 PM, at the Teatro San Carlo in Caravaggio. Là dove finisce il buio, written by Marialuisa Miraglia and performed by Stefano Panzeri with live music by Simone Riva, tells the story of Don Bepo Vavassori and Don Antonio Seghezzi during the Resistance. The evening, with free admission and booking, anticipates the April 25th celebrations.
