International Dance Day celebrated in Rome through Indian dance, archaeology, and wellness
La Danza Bollywood – Bollywood Dance Day is the annual appointment that celebrates International Dance Day in Rome, scheduled every April 30th. The initiative was born from the passion of Ambili Abraham, the first Indian dancer and choreographer to bring the charm of Bollywood dance to Italy. Active in the Roman scene since 1999, she is the founder of the Bollymasala Dance Company and president of the sports and cultural association ASDC Bollywood Dancers Italy.
The event takes place in the Municipality of Rome, the capital of the Lazio Region, and enjoys the patronage of the Lazio Region and Roma Capitale, in addition to the support of the Embassy of India. It is not just a show: it is a journey that combines dance, culture, history, and wellness, designed to create a bridge between Indian and Italian traditions.
The distinctive feature of the event is its ever-changing formula: as Ambili Abraham likes to say, the format changes every year to offer participants something authentic and to engage new people. In past editions, the day has transformed into a true roving parade among the monuments of the Eternal City, with coordinated performances in the squares, a panoramic tour on a double-decker bus, and group photos between the Colosseum and the Circus Maximus.
The heart of the event remains Bollywood dance, an inclusive discipline that invites everyone to participate—young and old, beginners and experts—in the spirit of universal wellness and sharing. Surrounding the dance are moments of cultural enrichment: conferences at the Embassy of India, guided archaeological walks along Via Veneto, the Imperial Forums, and the Colosseum, and meetings dedicated to Ayurvedic medicine and therapeutic yoga.
Dedicating a day to Bollywood dance means, in the organizers' intentions, following a path of exploration that pursues universal well-being and inclusion. Every year, the event seeks to blend different cultures, creating a moment of encounter in Rome where the richness of Indian tradition intertwines with the beauty of the capital's historical and artistic heritage.
The 2026 edition of La Danza Bollywood, the fifth in the series, was titled "The Imperial Path" and was held in Rome on April 30th, International Dance Day. The protagonists were about fifty women of various ages and nationalities, welcomed under the patronage of the Lazio Region and Roma Capitale, and with the support of the Embassy of India.
The day opened with greetings from the Ambassador and the "Emotional Make-up" conference held by make-up artist Valentina Montalto. This was followed by an archaeological walk guided by archaeologist and tour guide Emanuela Sarracino, with radio guides available to participants, along Via Veneto, Piazza Barberini, Via delle Quattro Fontane, Via Cavour, Via dei Fori Imperiali, and the Colosseum, ending at the Municipal Rose Garden on the Aventine Hill during the golden hour of sunset.
To complete the journey, a meeting dedicated to Ayurveda was held with Dr. Nancy Joseph Myladoor, a surgeon specializing in Ayurvedic medicine and therapeutic yoga, at a conference center on Via Cavour.
