Free concerts by the Rome Capital Local Police Band in the city's neighborhoods
La Banda va in Città is the traveling concert series that sees the Rome Capital Local Police Band step out of concert halls to meet the city in its everyday spaces. Historic squares, neighborhood parks, seaside piers, and public areas become open-air stages for an evening, with concerts that are completely free and open to everyone. The concept is simple and generous: to bring great live music to where people live, decentralizing it from the monumental center toward the suburbs and covering the entire territory of Rome, one performance at a time.
The Local Police Band has roots dating back to the second half of the 19th century and is now one of Rome's oldest and most prestigious musical institutions. Under the direction of Maestro Alberto Di Gianfelice, the ensemble brings together over seventy musicians and represents an artistic and civic treasure for the city, capable of blending Italian band tradition with a broad, modern repertoire.
Each concert offers an engaging and diverse program, spanning from great classics to pop music, from unforgettable film scores to traditional band arrangements, all tailored for a wide audience. It is music that speaks to everyone, from children to enthusiasts, turning a neighborhood evening into a shared celebration.
The hallmark of the festival is its widespread nature: the events progressively touch all fifteen districts of Rome, from Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere in District I to the Ostia Pier on the coast in District X, passing through parks like Villa de Sanctis, Parco Nemorense, and the squares of the most popular neighborhoods. Each concert is conceived as a gift to the local community that hosts it.
Promoted by Roma Capitale, the series is part of the cultural calendar of the Municipality of Rome, the capital of the Lazio region and the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital. It is an initiative that strengthens the bond between city institutions and citizens, restoring music to its role as a social glue and an opportunity for connection between the neighborhoods of Italy's largest city.
The 2026 festival took place from May 8 to July 17 with fourteen events spread across all districts of Rome, from central neighborhoods to the suburbs and the coast of Ostia. A musical journey that touched historic squares, parks, and public spaces, with concerts that were always free and open to everyone. The closing event, on July 17, was held in the evocative setting of Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere.
The Rome Capital Local Police Band, conducted by Maestro Alberto Di Gianfelice with over seventy musicians, performed a repertoire ranging from great classics to film scores, and from pop to traditional band music. Below is the full calendar of events, one for each district:
