Colorful paper kites on the meadows of the Ticinello Agricultural Park
The Ticinello Agricultural Park is one of Milan's most evocative and lesser-known areas: a still-cultivated countryside that survives on the city's outskirts, in Municipality 5, around the historic Cascina Campazzo, at via Marcello Dudovich 10. This is where the Kite Festival takes place every spring, organized by the Associazione Parco Ticinello, one of the most beloved days for families in the neighborhood and the entire city.
The absolute stars are the kites, handmade by volunteers with simple and ecological materials: wooden sticks, colorful tissue paper, spools of string, and a lot of passion. The choice of materials is not accidental: it helps protect the agricultural park and cultivated fields, minimizing waste and impact on the ecosystem. The farmers of Cascina Campazzo cut the grass of the so-called Pra' delle galline, one of the damp meadows in front of the farmhouse, to allow children to run freely and fly kites above the poplar trees surrounding the meadow.
The festival takes place in the afternoon and is designed primarily for children. There are snacks and ice cream from the historic Gelateria Merelli 1962 in Piazza Agrippa, made with milk from the farm's cows. It's a day dedicated to slowness and contact with nature, far from the city's rhythms, just a few kilometers from the center of Milan.
In addition to its playful dimension, the Kite Festival also serves to raise awareness and funds for the Associazione Parco Ticinello, committed to protecting and enhancing this precious piece of Milanese countryside. Participating also means supporting the survival of a unique agricultural and environmental heritage.
The 2026 edition of the Kite Festival will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Ticinello Agricultural Park, in front of Cascina Campazzo, starting in the early afternoon (around 2:30 PM). In case of bad weather, the festival will be postponed to the following Sunday, April 19.
