A Lenten Festival Almost Four Centuries Old
The IV Quaresima – Sagra dell'Addolorata is one of the oldest and most deeply rooted festivals in Zugliano, in the Alto Vicentino area (province of Vicenza): a tradition boasting over 380 editions. It takes place on the weekend of the fourth Sunday of Lent and is organized by the Pro Loco Zugliano, blending religious observance with a grand town square celebration.
The signature dish is the spit-roasted porchetta, cooked directly in the square and also available for takeaway, alongside gnocchi and grilled skewers served at the heated food stand. Surrounding the culinary offerings are the Sunday market fair, a craft market, a funfair, a charity raffle, and evening concerts, making the festival a highly anticipated event for the entire region.
On Sunday morning, the festivities begin with a mass in the Pieve di Santa Marta, commemorating the devotional roots of this centuries-old event, dedicated to the Virgin of Sorrows.
Addolorata Festival — edition 2026
The Addolorata Festival 2026 takes place on Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15, in the main square of Zugliano (VI), organized by Pro Loco Zugliano. The heated food stand opens on Saturday from 6 PM and Sunday from 10:30 AM, featuring spit-roasted porchetta cooked in the square (also available for takeaway), gnocchi, and grilled skewers. Saturday evening is dedicated to music with DJ Aigor G at 7 PM and a concert by The Beat All – Beatles Tribute Band at 9 PM. Sunday begins with mass in the Pieve di Santa Marta and continues with the market fair, craft market, funfair, and charity raffle.
