About Itala in Fiore

Itala in Fiore is the spring festival that brings vibrant color to the streets of Itala, a small village nestled on the slopes of the Peloritani mountains in the province of Messina. Promoted by the local municipality, the event transforms the historic center into a floral trail, inviting visitors to wander among decorated balconies, fragrant Mediterranean flora, and local artisanal products. It is an intimate, community-driven event designed to rediscover the village, its Norman churches, and the authentic atmosphere of the Ionian coast of Sicily.

Itala in Fiore: the village dresses in color

Itala in Fiore is a floral and community festival that enlivens the town of Itala, a small village of just over 1,500 residents perched at the foot of Mount Scuderi in the Peloritani range, in the province of Messina (Sicily). For one day, the village streets, its characteristic vanedde (steep stone stairways), small squares, and viewpoints overlooking the Ionian Sea are filled with flowers and floral arrangements. This initiative, promoted by the municipal administration, aims to showcase the village and its heritage.

A stroll through flowers and tradition

The heart of the event is a walk through the village: visitors explore the historic center amidst decorated corners, floral displays, and moments of conviviality in a festive atmosphere that brings together residents, local associations, and the Pro Loco. The festival highlights the natural beauty of Itala, surrounded by citrus groves and terraced hills, and the identity of a village that preserves precious Norman-era architecture.

  • Floral displays and decorations along the streets and balconies of the village
  • Guided walk through the most picturesque corners of the historic center
  • Promotion of local products, from citrus fruits to regional wines
  • Entertainment and social activities for families and visitors

Itala, a jewel of the Peloritani

Itala is best known for the Abbey of Saints Peter and Paul, a stunning example of Arab-Norman architecture commissioned by Count Roger, featuring polychrome brick and lava stone masonry. The village, divided into districts such as Croce, Mannello, and Itala Marina, is an ideal destination for those seeking an authentic Sicilian experience, far from the main tourist hubs. The Itala in Fiore festival is the perfect opportunity to discover this corner of the Metropolitan City of Messina during the most beautiful time of the year, when spring paints the valley and the village in brilliant colors.

Now in its third edition as of 2025, the festival has established itself as a highly anticipated spring appointment, uniting the community and celebrating the deep bond between the village, its nature, and its traditions.
