A day of flowers, colors, and tradition in the heart of the Peloritani mountains
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Itala in Fiore is a floral and community festival that enlivens the town of Itala, a small village of just over 1,500 residents perched at the foot of Mount Scuderi in the Peloritani range, in the province of Messina (Sicily). For one day, the village streets, its characteristic vanedde (steep stone stairways), small squares, and viewpoints overlooking the Ionian Sea are filled with flowers and floral arrangements. This initiative, promoted by the municipal administration, aims to showcase the village and its heritage.
The heart of the event is a walk through the village: visitors explore the historic center amidst decorated corners, floral displays, and moments of conviviality in a festive atmosphere that brings together residents, local associations, and the Pro Loco. The festival highlights the natural beauty of Itala, surrounded by citrus groves and terraced hills, and the identity of a village that preserves precious Norman-era architecture.
Itala is best known for the Abbey of Saints Peter and Paul, a stunning example of Arab-Norman architecture commissioned by Count Roger, featuring polychrome brick and lava stone masonry. The village, divided into districts such as Croce, Mannello, and Itala Marina, is an ideal destination for those seeking an authentic Sicilian experience, far from the main tourist hubs. The Itala in Fiore festival is the perfect opportunity to discover this corner of the Metropolitan City of Messina during the most beautiful time of the year, when spring paints the valley and the village in brilliant colors.
Now in its third edition as of 2025, the festival has established itself as a highly anticipated spring appointment, uniting the community and celebrating the deep bond between the village, its nature, and its traditions.
For 2026, the Municipality of Itala has not yet released the official calendar for Itala in Fiore. Based on previous editions, and in particular the third one held on June 1, 2025, the event is expected to return in the spring, featuring the traditional floral walk through the village in the Peloritani mountains. Information regarding dates, times, and the program will be updated as soon as it is published by official sources.
Itala is located in the province of Messina, on the Ionian coast. By car, it can be reached via the A18 Messina-Catania motorway (taking the Roccalumera or Messina Sud exits) and the SS114, then heading up toward the hillside center. The nearest train station is Itala-Alì Terme on the Ionian line, from which you can continue to the village. The reference airport is Catania-Fontanarossa.
The event takes place in the historic center of Itala. Admission is free. For the updated program, it is recommended to check the official channels of the Municipality of Itala and the Mayor's page. Comfortable shoes are recommended to navigate the village's characteristic stairways.
