About Folklore Festival

The International Folklore Festival brings the voice of global folk traditions to Ruvo di Puglia. Born from the commitment of the Lapecheronza cultural association and linked to the European Erasmus+ Youth project, the event gathers international folk groups for an evening of traditional dance, music, and period costumes on the evocative parvis of the Co-Cathedral. A cultural encounter in the heart of the city's historic center, in the province of Bari, with free admission.

A bridge between peoples in the heart of Puglia

The International Folklore Festival is the event that every summer transforms Ruvo di Puglia, in the heart of the Terra di Bari, into a crossroads of folk traditions from different countries. Organized by the Lapecheronza cultural association with the patronage of the Municipality of Ruvo di Puglia and the Italian Federation of Folk Traditions, the festival brings together Italian and international folk groups for a fascinating evening dedicated to dance, music, and traditional costumes.

The stage: the parvis of the Co-Cathedral

The setting for the event is one of the most evocative in the city: the parvis of the Co-Cathedral, in the historic center of Ruvo, facing one of the most precious examples of Apulian Romanesque architecture. Here, at nightfall, guest groups take turns on stage, performing traditional dances, folk music, and showcasing period costumes that tell the cultural stories of their respective countries. The audience—citizens, visitors, and tourists—can enjoy a free sound and visual journey through the popular identities of the Mediterranean and beyond.

A festival within a European project

The International Folklore Festival is not just a show, but one of the central moments of a broader Erasmus+ Youth project, promoted by the National Youth Agency. The initiative supports dialogue between cultures and the safeguarding of intangible heritage through the mobility and exchange of young Europeans. Alongside the evening performances, the program includes guided tours of the historical and scenic sites of Ruvo and the Terra di Bari, as well as itinerant performances in other Apulian towns, spreading folk traditions among local communities.

International guests

Each edition brings together delegations from different nations. In the most recent edition, folk groups from Italy, Portugal, and Turkey took the stage, each with their own repertoire of dances, songs, and traditional attire. The festival's formula prioritizes encounter and mutual understanding: not a competition, but a shared celebration where differences become an opportunity for discovery.

Ruvo di Puglia and its traditions

An art city known for its famous Romanesque Co-Cathedral and the extraordinary ceramic heritage of ancient Rubi, Ruvo di Puglia is a town in the Bari hinterland deeply connected to its cultural and religious roots. Hosting a festival dedicated to international folklore strengthens the city's vocation for hospitality and exchange, placing Ruvo in a European circuit for the promotion of folk traditions. For those visiting Puglia in summer, the event is an opportunity to experience the authentic hospitality of the territory combined with curiosity for world cultures.
