About Incomune / Uncommon

Incomune / Uncommon is a widespread contemporary art, performance, literature, and video art festival that brings creativity to the spaces of Rome's Municipio V, spanning the Prenestino and Centocelle districts. Promoted by the Bertugno-Moulinier Foundation and supported by Roma Capitale as part of the 'Roma Creativa 365' public initiative, the event transforms squares, courtyards, and unexpected corners of Rome's suburbs into stages for emerging artists and experimental visual languages.

Incomune / Uncommon: contemporary art traversing the suburbs

Incomune / Uncommon is a widespread festival of contemporary art, performance, literature, and video art that enlivens Rome's Municipio V, in the heart of the Prenestino and Centocelle districts. The project stems from the belief that culture should not be confined to the grand institutions of the historic center, but can inhabit the streets, squares, and everyday spaces of the suburbs, returning them to the city as places of encounter and imagination.

A multidisciplinary program

The event weaves together diverse languages: contemporary art installations, live performances, literary readings, and video art screenings. Each appointment invites the public to view the territory with fresh eyes, turning courtyards, disused spaces, and unexpected locations into temporary stages. The focus is primarily on emerging artists and experimental visual research, in dialogue with the local residents.

  • Contemporary art: installations and interventions in urban spaces
  • Performance: live actions and performing arts
  • Literature: meetings, readings, and storytelling
  • Video art: screenings and experiments with moving images

The Bertugno-Moulinier Foundation

Incomune / Uncommon is promoted by the Bertugno-Moulinier Foundation, a Roman organization founded in 2021 from the encounter between artist Simone Bertugno and art historian and curator Magali Moulinier. Based in Municipio V, the foundation operates on the conviction that the arts play a transversal and essential role in transmitting culture within society, collaborating with local, national, and international institutions.

Roma Creativa 365

The project is supported by Roma Capitale as part of the Roma Creativa 365. Cultura tutto l'anno public notice, managed by Zรจtema Progetto Cultura: a biennial call for proposals worth over 8.5 million euros designed to overcome the seasonality of events and spread cultural offerings across all city districts, 365 days a year. Incomune / Uncommon is one of the projects selected for Municipio V.

Prenestino and Centocelle, the creative suburbs

Municipio V, which includes the Prenestino, Centocelle, Pigneto, and Tor Pignattara districts, has been one of Rome's most vibrant cultural laboratories for years: a multicultural mosaic where street art, independent spaces, and new generations of artists coexist with the neighborhood's popular memory. Incomune / Uncommon integrates into this fabric to strengthen the bond between contemporary art and the local community.

An invitation to discover

More than just a festival, Incomune / Uncommon is an invitation to rediscover the less touristy and more authentic side of Rome, the one that tells its story through its inhabitants and its artists. An opportunity to experience the city differently, letting yourself be surprised by the most "uncommon" things the suburbs have to offer.
