The Improvisational Theater Festival in Sermoneta is dedicated to one of the most vibrant and surprising forms of live performance: theatrical improvisation. No scripts, no pre-set scenery: actors build stories in real-time, starting from suggestions provided by the audience, who thus become an active part of the creative process. Each show is a one-of-a-kind piece, impossible to replicate, where comedy, storytelling, and theatrical play intertwine before the spectators' eyes.

Part of the Sermoneta Summer Events

The festival is included in the rich Eventi d'Estate a Sermoneta calendar, a series of events promoted by the municipal administration that offers about fifty appointments each year between July, August, and September: from the classical music of the Pontino Festival to pop concerts, international folklore, and gastronomy. Within this mosaic of offerings, the weekend dedicated to improvisational theater represents the most playful and participatory soul of the program, designed to bring even those who do not habitually attend the theater closer to the stage.

Sermoneta, a village-stage

Few places lend themselves to theater like Sermoneta, a medieval jewel of the Lepini Mountains overlooking the Pontine plain, in the province of Latina, in southern Lazio. The village, dominated by the imposing Castello Caetani and crossed by stone alleys, loggias, and panoramic squares, offers natural settings of rare charm: it is no coincidence that the Municipality of Sermoneta has been hosting musical reviews, historical re-enactments, and outdoor shows there for decades. Attending an improvised performance within these walls means experiencing a double thrill: theatrical and scenic at the same time.

Improvisational theater in the Pontine territory

The festival is rooted in a vibrant local scene: companies specializing in improvisation operate in the Pontine territory, such as the Maia Compagnia Teatrale, active between Latina and the Lepini villages and linked to Improteatro, the national improvisational theater network. In the spring of 2026, Sermoneta already hosted, under the patronage of the City, a stage of the national INTERCITY tour at the Antonio Rosa Park amphitheater in Monticchio, featuring free trial lessons and shows that brought together students and actors from Rome, Naples, and Latina.
