I Cantieri dell'Immaginario is a summer live performance festival that brings L'Aquila and its surrounding territory to life every year with music, theater, dance, storytelling, and new productions. Coordinated by the Teatro Stabile d'Abruzzo and promoted by the Municipality of L'Aquila, the event has become one of the most anticipated cultural highlights of the Abruzzo summer. The 2026 edition—the ninth—holds special significance as it accompanies L'Aquila's journey as the Italian Capital of Culture 2026, featuring a program of 42 shows between July 4 and August 6.

The village of Tione joins the program

One of the most compelling aspects of I Cantieri dell'Immaginario is the decision not to remain confined to the capital's historic center. Alongside iconic L'Aquila venues like the Scalinata di San Bernardino and the Teatro San Filippo, the program opens up to smaller towns in the province. Tione degli Abruzzi, a village in the middle Aterno valley nestled on the slopes of the Sirente, joins the 2026 program with a high-profile evening designed to showcase performances in an intimate, evocative setting—far from large theaters, yet no less moving. The event takes place in Piazza Don Mariani, in the center of the village.

A tribute to Lucio Battisti under the stars

The Tione stop is dedicated to Italian singer-songwriter music: on the evening of Sunday, July 19, the audience will experience the show "Lucio Battisti... Emozioni!", a journey through the songs of one of Italy's greatest pop music authors. On stage, the voice of Cesare Bocci, arrangements by Damiano D'Ambrosio, and the Saverio Mercadante chamber orchestra, conducted by Rocco Debernard by Rocco Debernardis. It is an opportunity to rediscover an inland area of L'Aquila that once again becomes a place for meeting, community, and culture.

A widespread and accessible festival

I Cantieri dell'Immaginario is built on the idea of culture as a shared asset open to everyone. The 2026 edition features 42 events between July 4 and August 6, with major national guests and original productions. The festival places great emphasis on accessibility, with performances interpreted in LIS (Italian Sign Language) for the deaf community, thanks to a collaboration with the National Association of the Deaf. The stop in the village of Tione degli Abruzzi, in the province of L'Aquila and in the heart of the Apennine Abruzzo, is an invitation to discover another side of the festival: that of small towns coming back to life through art.
