About I AM / IO SONO

From May 9 to June 10, 2026, Palazzo Massimo, home to the National Roman Museum, hosts the fourth edition of I AM / IO SONO, the cultural project by Roma Fotografia dedicated to female identity. A dual journey weaving together photography, neuroscience, and writing: the Women's Photography Award exhibition engages in a dialogue with the ancient art of the museum halls, while the opening weekend on May 9-10 features meetings with psychologists, archaeologists, and neuroscientists. Free admission upon reservation.

A project on female identity in the heart of Rome

From May 9 to June 10, 2026, I AM / IO SONO returns to Rome for its fourth edition, a cultural project dedicated to female identity and themes of awareness and self-determination. The initiative is organized and promoted by the Roma Fotografia Association in partnership with the Department of Culture of Rome's Municipio I Centro, in collaboration with the National Roman Museum and with the media partnership of IL FOTOGRAFO magazine. The venue is one of the most prestigious in the capital: Palazzo Massimo alle Terme, just a short walk from Termini station.

What sets I AM / IO SONO apart from other photographic events in the city is its multidisciplinary approach, which intertwines photography, neuroscience, writing, and technology to promote positive, inclusive, and conscious models. It is not just an exhibition, but a socially engaged project that places the narrative of the contemporary female experience at its center.

The exhibition at Palazzo Massimo

In the halls of Palazzo Massimo, the photographic exhibition continues the tradition of dialogue between ancient art and contemporary photography: the winning and finalist images from the international Women's Photography Award call engage with the statues, mosaics, and frescoes of the National Roman Museum's collection. The result is a plural narrative that offers an authentic and contemporary perspective, free from stereotypes. The exhibition remains open for a full month, from May 9 to June 10, 2026.

The Women's Photography Award

At the heart of the project is the Women's Photography Award, an international call open to professional photographers, amateurs, and citizens of all nationalities, invited to tell stories of identity, origins, and visions of the future through images. The competition categories are Short Story (projects of 4 to 8 photographs) and Single Shot (individual images), in color or black and white. The most significant works are published in IL FOTOGRAFO magazine.

Meetings and experiential paths

Alongside the exhibition, during the opening weekend of May 9 and 10, a calendar of meetings and experiential, motivational paths addresses themes related to awareness, relationships, and the role of women in society, with contributions from speakers and experts in the fields of psychology, archaeology, and neuroscience.

Rome and the Lazio region

Hosted in the Municipio I Centro, within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital (Lazio), I AM / IO SONO confirms the capital's vocation as a cultural laboratory where the great museum tradition opens up to contemporary languages and the most current social issues. An event designed for a curious and sensitive audience, combining the discovery of an extraordinary museum with reflection on identity and relationships.

I AM / IO SONO — edition 2026

The fourth edition of I AM / IO SONO takes place from May 9 to June 10, 2026, at Palazzo Massimo, home of the National Roman Museum. The Women's Photography Award exhibition engages with the ancient art of the halls, while the opening weekend of May 9-10 offers free meetings with psychologists, archaeologists, and neuroscientists on the theme of female identity and relationships.

The 2026 edition of I AM / IO SONO is structured as a dual journey: a photographic exhibition open from May 9 to June 10 in the halls of Palazzo Massimo, featuring the winning and finalist works of the Women's Photography Award, and a busy calendar of meetings concentrated on the opening weekend of May 9 and 10. All events are free with recommended reservation.
