Easter at the Marian Sanctuary
The Sanctuary of Caravaggio, dedicated to St. Mary of the Font, is a pilgrimage site frequented all year round, but during Holy Week it takes on a special intensity. On the days of the Easter Triduum, the basilica in the town of Caravaggio, in the province of Bergamo, hosts the most solemn celebrations of the Christian calendar.
The Easter Triduum
The journey begins on Palm Sunday and culminates in the three central days. On Maundy Thursday, the Mass of the Lord's Supper is celebrated, with the rite of the washing of the feet recalling Jesus' gesture of service. Good Friday is dedicated to the Celebration of the Lord's Passion and the Veneration of the Cross, in an atmosphere of silence and meditation. Holy Saturday culminates in the great Easter Vigil, the night on which the Resurrection is proclaimed.
Easter and the Octave
On Easter Sunday, the sanctuary is once again filled with faithful for the numerous Masses of the day, which continue on Easter Monday. It is a time when the pilgrimage dimension of the place merges with Easter joy, in one of Lombardy's most cherished Marian destinations.

In 2026, Holy Week at the Sanctuary of Caravaggio opens with Palm Sunday (March 29th) and culminates in the Easter Triduum. On Maundy Thursday (April 2nd), the Mass of the Lord's Supper with the washing of the feet is celebrated; on Good Friday (April 3rd), the Passion of the Lord and the Veneration of the Cross; on Holy Saturday (April 4th), the solemn Easter Vigil. On Easter Sunday (April 5th) and Easter Monday (April 6th), numerous festive Masses are held.
