Celebrations in honor of the Holy Trinity in Pratola Peligna
The Holy Trinity Festival is the most iconic religious and popular event in Pratola Peligna, a town in the province of L'Aquila nestled in the Peligna Valley, between the Majella and Morrone massifs in Abruzzo. Devotion to the Holy Trinity is so deeply rooted that it has shaped the community's life for centuries: around Trinity Sunday — the first Sunday after Pentecost — the town dresses up for the occasion and gathers around its archconfraternity.
The celebrations are managed by the Archconfraternity of the Holy Trinity, a historic association that preserves the devotional tradition, and the Holy Trinity Festival Committee, which is renewed annually with a president, a 'mastra' (organizer), and collaborators. The Committee does more than just organize the event: over the years, it has promoted lasting initiatives for the community, such as the restoration and enrichment of the heritage of Pratola's churches.
The festival traditionally spans several days, alternating between sacred and secular appointments. The religious heart of the event is the display of the Holy Trinity statue and the solemn procession through the streets of the historic center, accompanied by a brass band and the participation of the confreres. A rich secular calendar develops around these rites: the sacred art exhibition, car shows in the historic center, comedy and street performances, markets, a running race, and large evening concerts in the square that attract visitors from all over the Peligna Valley.
More than just a simple recurrence, the Holy Trinity Festival is the moment when Pratola Peligna rediscovers its identity: families decorate the districts, such as the historic San Lorenzo district, emigrants return to the town, and the people of Pratola recognize themselves in a tradition that unites faith, folklore, and a sense of belonging. It is one of the most well-attended patronal festivals in the Abruzzo hinterland.
The 2026 Holy Trinity Festival was held in Pratola Peligna (AQ) over the three days of May 29, 30, and 31, 2026, with the final Sunday coinciding with the liturgical Trinity Sunday. The program, presented in preview at the Archconfraternity, was built around religious, traditional, and community moments, curated by the Festival Committee with its president, the 'mastra', and collaborators.
As per tradition, the historic center came alive with the decorations of the districts — including the historic San Lorenzo district, where residents adorned the staircase with floral arrangements — and with the display of the Holy Trinity statue followed by the solemn procession through the town streets. The festival confirmed its role as a central appointment in the life of the Pratola community.
The festival took place over three days, from Friday, May 29 to Sunday, May 31, 2026, with Trinity Sunday as the culminating day. The program, presented in preview at the Archconfraternity headquarters, alternated according to the usual structure of the festival with religious moments (display of the Holy Trinity statue and solemn procession through the streets of the historic center), traditional appointments, and community moments with events in the square.
Full details of times and guests were released by the organizers in the days immediately preceding the event on the official channels of the Archconfraternity and the Festival Committee.
