About Grutti Festival
Grutti, Devotion and the Middle Ages
Grutti is a small hamlet in the municipality of Gualdo Cattaneo, in the province of Perugia, in the heart of Umbria del Sagrantino. Its summer festival has very ancient origins and was born to honor the Madonna of Santa Maria d'Agello, invoked by farmers as the protector of fields and harvests. Parish archives document the existence of a confraternity of Santa Maria d'Agello that looked after the church and organized the late August festival.
Between Faith and Historical Re-enactment
Alongside the religious dimension, which culminates in rites in honor of the Madonna, there is the re-enactment aspect: during the festival, the village sets up scenes of medieval life, with costumed figures, ancient crafts, and period settings. The schedule includes the medieval dinner, the historical procession, dances in the square, live music, and local gastronomy stands, where you can taste traditional Gualdo dishes and local wines.

The Festa di Grutti is one of the most characteristic August events in the Gualdo Cattaneo area: an opportunity to discover an authentic inland Umbrian village and to experience a village festival that intertwines popular faith, historical memory, and conviviality.
Grutti Festival — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Festa di Grutti is divided into two periods: from Friday, August 21 to Sunday, August 23 and from Wednesday, August 26 to Sunday, August 30. The festival honors the Madonna of Santa Maria d'Agello, protector of fields and harvests, blending devotion and historical re-enactment. The village sets up scenes of medieval life and hosts the medieval dinner, the historical procession, dances in the square, live music, and Umbrian gastronomy stands.

The detailed daily program for the 2026 edition will be published by the Pro Loco di Grutti in the weeks preceding the event. The established structure, on August 21-23 and 26-30, includes:
- Evening opening of gastronomic stands with traditional Gualdo dishes and local wines.
- Medieval dinner and setting up of medieval life scenes in the village alleys.
- Historical procession with costumed figures.
- Dances in the square and live music to close the evenings.
- Rites in honor of the Madonna of Santa Maria d'Agello.

How to get there
Grutti is a hamlet of Gualdo Cattaneo, in the province of Perugia, between Todi and Montefalco. It can be reached by car from the E45 (Todi exit) or the SS3 Flaminia, following signs for Grutti.
