The Ambrosian Carnival with entertainment, traditional games, and an evening in the square
Gressoney-Saint-Jean, an elegant village in the upper Lys Valley awarded the Orange Flag by the Touring Club, celebrates Carnival according to the Ambrosian calendar—the Milanese one, which extends celebrations beyond Shrove Tuesday. This peculiarity is linked to the history of this German-speaking Walser community, guardians of their own dialect and unique traditions in the Alps.
The Gressoney-Saint-Jean Carnival features several events designed for all ages:
Part of the broader Gressoney Walser Festival calendar, which combines music, culture, theater, tradition, sports, nature, and local flavors, the Carnival is one of the moments that best showcase the welcoming spirit of this mountain town. A joyful and family-friendly event in the heart of the Monterosa ski area, in the province of Aosta.
The 2026 edition of the Gressoney-Saint-Jean Carnival, following the Ambrosian rite, is spread over three events.
It opens on Saturday, February 14, with entertainment for families and children at Villa Deslex, featuring costumes, colors, and games organized by professional entertainers. Sunday, February 15, is the après-ski style evening at Obre Platz, with DJ Eporadio, music, and dancing. It concludes on Saturday, February 21, with traditional wooden games for all ages in the historic center.
Gressoney-Saint-Jean is reached from Pont-Saint-Martin by driving up the Lys Valley along the SR44. The events take place between Villa Deslex and Obre Platz, in the center of the village.
