About Gressoney Carnival

At the foot of Monte Rosa, in the Walser municipality of Gressoney-La-Trinité, the Gressoney Carnival brings colour and cheer to the snow. In Piazza Tache, the children's carnival unfolds with masks, entertainment, and lots of fun for families, in one of the most picturesque locations in the Valle del Lys. A simple and genuine celebration that blends carnival tradition with the mountain atmosphere and Walser culture of this corner of the Aosta Valley.

A Walser Carnival on the Snow

In Gressoney-La-Trinité, a municipality with Walser culture at the upper end of the Valle del Lys, at the foot of Monte Rosa in the Aosta Valley, Carnival is a celebration designed primarily for the little ones. In Piazza Tache, the heart of the village, the children's carnival fills the day with masks, colours, and entertainment, in a unique mountain setting.

The Children's Celebration

The Children's Carnival is the highlight: animators and activities involve families and children in games, masked parades, and entertainment, transforming the square into a large festive space. An event eagerly awaited by local families and the many tourists who frequent the Monterosa Ski area in the midst of the winter season.

Between Gressoney-La-Trinité and Gressoney-Saint-Jean

The carnival celebrations extend throughout the Gressoney valley: while Gressoney-La-Trinité hosts the children's carnival, the nearby Gressoney-Saint-Jean celebrates the Ambrosian Carnival with a parade and shows. Two complementary events that liven up the Valle del Lys and showcase its community spirit.

Walser Culture and the Mountains

Experiencing Carnival in Gressoney also means discovering the Walser culture, the language, and the traditions of this population of Alemannic origin who have inhabited the valleys at the foot of Monte Rosa for centuries. A celebration that combines the fun of Carnival with the charm of an alpine territory with a strong and well-preserved identity.
