The great August fair of Alta Val Tidone, with stalls, agriculture, and tradition
The Great Fair of Nibbiano is the largest and most varied popular event in Alta Val Tidone, in the heart of the Piacenza Apennines, in Emilia-Romagna. It is traditionally held on the first Tuesday after Ferragosto in the village of Nibbiano, which for an entire day fills with merchants, producers, artisans, and visitors from all over the valley and surrounding areas. Hundreds of stalls wind through the streets of the historic center, in a festive atmosphere that combines commerce, farming tradition, and a sense of community.
The fair has its origins in a centuries-old tradition, linked to the medieval and Carolingian past of this territory, crossed by ancient routes such as the Via Francigena di Montagna, the Via dei Feudi, and the Sentiero dei Celti. In its modern form, the event was relaunched in 1985 on the initiative of Ivano Castagna, and since then it has been renewed every summer, confirming itself as the highlight of the summer events in the Municipality of Alta Val Tidone.
The core identity of the fair is the large exhibition of agriculture and livestock, set up in the sports field area. Here you can admire cattle, horses, and sheep from local farms, alongside an agricultural machinery show and a charming exhibition of vintage tractors, complete with a historical demonstration of threshing with old machinery. A living tribute to the farming civilization that has shaped this valley.
The food stalls offer the authentic flavors of Alta Val Tidone, including products with municipal designation such as Black Truffle DE.CO of Pecorara and Batarò DE.CO of Sala Mandelli, symbols of a territory that makes its gastronomic quality one of its most authentic riches.
As evening falls, the celebration moves to Piazza Combattenti, where music and dancing liven up the village until late at night. The grand finale is the pyromusical show, fireworks that illuminate the sky of Nibbiano around 11 PM, bringing the day to a beautiful close. For the little ones, a funfair is set up in the pool area during the fair days.
The Great Fair of Nibbiano 2026 will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in accordance with the tradition that sets the fair for the first Tuesday after Ferragosto. The date is confirmed by the official 2026 event calendar of Alta Val Tidone, which lists over 70 events throughout the year.
