The great gathering of the Val di Fiemme brass bands
The Grand Concert of the Bands of the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme is one of the most deeply rooted musical events in Trentino. Every summer, it unites the valley's historic brass bands in a single, large-scale travelling event, hosted in rotation by the various towns of the Fiemme Valley under the patronage of the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, the ancient community institution that has governed the valley's collective assets for centuries.
The roots of the event date back to the late 19th century, when local bands began meeting for festivals and anniversaries. The first official gathering took place in 1937 in Cavalese; interrupted during the Second World War between 1940 and 1945, the event resumed in Ziano and has never stopped since, becoming a symbol of the valley's musical and community identity.
The Grand Concert hosts historic local ensembles, many of which boast centuries-old origins:
The event is held in collaboration with the Federation of Brass Bands of the Province of Trento, the body that has coordinated and supported the rich Trentino band tradition since 1951.
The typical program of the Grand Concert alternates between spectacular and social moments: the bands march in uniform along the streets of the host town, gather in the central square for the highly anticipated ensemble performance — dozens of musicians playing the same repertoire together — and take part in the award ceremony. The day continues with a second parade and a dinner reserved for the band members, closing in the evening with live music open to the public.
Hosted in the towns of the Val di Fiemme and the nearby Val di Fassa, including Moena (Autonomous Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige), the Grand Concert is much more than a concert: it is a community ritual that strengthens the bond between the valley's towns and celebrates the heritage of the brass bands, guardians of a folk tradition passed down from generation to generation at the foot of the Dolomites.
For the 2026 edition, the Grand Concert of the Bands stopped in Moena, hosted by the Moena Municipal Band in collaboration with the Municipality, the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, and the Federation of Brass Bands of the Province of Trento. The day combined the tradition of parades with the warmth of the evening party in the town centre.
In case of bad weather, the entire event was planned to take place under the marquee set up at the sports field. Admission to the parades and concerts was free.
Moena is located in the Val di Fassa, in the heart of Trentino. By car, it can be reached via the A22 Brenner motorway (Egna-Ora or Ora exit, then the SS48 Dolomite road). The nearest train station is Ora/Auer, connected to Moena by Trentino Trasporti bus lines.
The event is free and open to the public: parades and performances are held in the squares and streets of the host town. In case of bad weather, the event may be moved indoors (marquee or theatre).
In summer, the Val di Fassa offers numerous accommodation options; early booking is recommended. Don't miss the walks and the ski lifts in the Dolomite area.
