The great allegorical floats in the heart of Crema
The Gran Carnevale Cremasco is one of the most heartfelt traditions of Crema and the entire Crema area, in the province of Cremona. For three consecutive Sundays, the large allegorical floats parade in Piazza Giovanni XXIII amidst confetti, music, and masks, transforming the city center into a large open-air stage. It is considered one of the flagship events of the Lombardy carnival.
The floats are built by local groups, districts, and oratories, who work for months in workshops to create imposing and colorful structures. In addition to their spectacular nature, the floats often carry a message: satire on current events, social reflections, tributes to popular culture. Each edition sees the groups competing, with the public invited to vote for the most beautiful float.
The Gran Carnevale Cremasco is not just a parade: it is a participatory festival that involves the entire community, from the young people who animate the floats to the many spectators who crowd the square every Sunday. Thousands of people attend each parade, with visitors arriving from all over Lombardy to experience the atmosphere of one of the most important carnival events in the region.
Organized by the Carnevale Cremasco association, the event is renewed every year, keeping alive a tradition that has become part of the city's identity. Among the grand floats, masks, and contagious cheerfulness, the Gran Carnevale Cremasco is the perfect opportunity to discover Crema at its most festive moment.
The 38th edition of the Gran Carnevale Cremasco took place in Crema over three Sundays of parades (February 8, 15, and 22, 2026) in Piazza Giovanni XXIII, with around 10,000 spectators at each event and visitors from all over Lombardy. The winning float was "Ai-Guana" from the Quade oratory group: a gigantic colorful iguana, born from the heart of the rainforest to defend the real world against the dominance of the virtual and artificial intelligence. The event is organized by the Carnevale Cremasco Odv association, chaired by Eugenio Pisati.
The parades are held on Sundays, February 8, 15, and 22, 2026, in the afternoon.
