The Carnival village by the sea and the Via Aurea Carnival among the Palazzi dei Rolli
The Gran Carnevale is the main Carnival event in Genoa, organized by the Municipality together with Porto Antico di Genova. The heart of the festival is the Carnival village set up on Calata Falcone Borsellino, in the Old Port, which for three days transforms into a fantastic world dedicated to children and families.
The 2026 edition is inspired by "Alice in Wonderland": the village features a large 150-square-meter labyrinth, themed installations, six interactive game stations, and family entertainment, in a journey that recreates the fairytale atmosphere of Lewis Carroll's famous story. On Sunday, in Piazza Caricamento, the traditional breaking of the piñata takes place, the most anticipated moment for the little ones.
On Sunday, the festival extends to Via Garibaldi, the famous "Golden Street" of the Palazzi dei Rolli, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Among Palazzo Bianco, Tursi, Rosso, Lomellino, and Pallavicino, the Via Aurea Carnival celebrates the twentieth anniversary of the UNESCO recognition, with a final parade in the afternoon from Palazzo Tursi to the Old Port, symbolically connecting the two hearts of the festival.
With installations, games, costumes, and parades, the Gran Carnevale is a festival that celebrates both the modern waterfront of the Old Port and the historic heritage of Genoa's city center. A joyous and popular event that brings together families and children from all over Liguria.
The 2026 edition of the Gran Carnevale at Genoa's Old Port runs from February 13-15, with the theme "Alice in Wonderland". The Carnival village at Calata Falcone Borsellino offers a 150 sqm labyrinth, themed installations, six interactive game stations, and family entertainment.
On Sunday, the piñata breaking takes place in Piazza Caricamento and the Via Aurea Carnival along Via Garibaldi, among the Palazzi dei Rolli, celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the UNESCO recognition.
The Old Port and Via Garibaldi are in the heart of Genoa, reachable on foot from Genova Piazza Principe station, by metro (San Giorgio/Darsena stop), and by AMT buses.
