Light and image shows in the Lanzi Court of the castle
Above the center of Gorizia stands the medieval castle, a symbol of the city and guardian of its border history. In the evocative Lanzi Court, the Municipality of Gorizia has introduced a new way to experience the monument: videomapping, a technique that projects lights, sounds, and images directly onto the ancient walls, making them literally come alive.
Created by the company ETT of Genoa as part of the Bando Borghi, the show immerses spectators in medieval and Renaissance atmospheres, between history, fantasy, and references to the territory. Six projectors and tens of thousands of lumens reconstruct the daily life of the fortress in a spectacular narrative, directed by Federico Basso.
The experience consists of two distinct shows, each lasting about fifteen minutes. The first, "In the Castle among Counts and knights, ladies and servants", is inspired by an event that actually happened in the castle and tells the story of court life among counts, knights, ladies, and servants. The second, "In the Castle among games, music, and magic", takes the viewer into a more fairy-tale world, made of games, music, and magical suggestions.
The two stories are projected in succession, offering a complete narrative journey that combines historical accuracy and fantasy, designed for history enthusiasts, families, and curious people of all ages.
The videomapping illuminates the castle during festive periods, from Christmas to Easter holidays, always with free admission. It has quickly become one of the most beloved events by the people of Gorizia and visitors, an opportunity to discover the castle in a new light and to enjoy a different evening in the heart of Gorizia, a European Capital of Culture city along with Nova Gorica.
On Easter evenings 2026, from April 2 to 6, the Lanzi Court of Gorizia Castle hosts the videomapping shows, every evening from 8:30 PM to 10:00 PM. The two stories "In the Castle among Counts and knights, ladies and servants" and "In the Castle among games, music, and magic" are projected in succession, each lasting about fifteen minutes.
Admission to the shows is free. Furthermore, on Easter Sunday (April 5) and Easter Monday (April 6), the castle, with its panoramic viewpoints and multimedia experience, is open and free to visit. The initiative is organized by the Municipality of Gorizia with production by ETT of Genoa, as part of the Bando Borghi.
