In Polaveno, a municipality in Valle Trompia in the province of Brescia, the Palio dell'Oca (Goose Palio) is the most cherished summer festival. The protagonists are the five districts of the town — La Fontana, Zoadello, La Valle, Castello, and La Sorgente — who challenge each other in games and tournaments in a spirit of healthy competition and local pride.
A Week of Games and Festivities
During the weekdays, the districts compete in tournaments and challenges that award points for the overall standings. Alongside the competition, the festival offers flavours, music, and moments of conviviality that liven up the town's streets and involve all ages.
The Final Race and the Patrons
The climax is the final goose race, which takes place on the concluding Sunday, after Mass and processions with the statues of the saints. The festival indeed celebrates the patrons Saint Anne and Saint Nicholas, uniting the religious dimension with popular and sporting traditions. Now in its 36th edition, the Palio dell'Oca renews the Triumplina community's bond with its traditions every year.
Goose Palio — edition 2026
The 2026 edition, the thirty-sixth, enlivens Polaveno from July 20 to 27. The five districts of the town — La Fontana, Zoadello, La Valle, Castello, and La Sorgente — compete in games and tournaments during the weekdays, alongside flavours, music, and convivial moments. On Sunday, July 27, after Mass and processions with the statues of the patron saints, the traditional final goose race begins at 9:30 PM.
