The Pink Race arrives on the Girfalco, in the heart of Fermo
The Giro d'Italia, the historic Pink Race organized by RCS Sport, makes a stop in Fermo, the provincial capital in the Marche region. The finish line is set on the Piazzale del Girfalco, the highest point in the city, where the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta stands: one of the most evocative settings in the entire pink caravan. For the city, this is a return awaited for decades, capable of attracting thousands of enthusiasts along the town's roads.
The route leading to the Fermo finish is a classic of the Marche region: after an initial stretch along the Adriatic coast, the race heads inland, facing a succession of ups and downs and formidable walls, some with gradients nearing 20%. The final climb towards the historic center, with the Reputolo ramp and the last kilometer uphill to the Girfalco, makes the finale unpredictable and spectacular, reserved for explosive riders.
The Giro day in Fermo is not just a race: the passage of the Pink Race is a true widespread village festival, with crowds lining the climbs, pink flags at the windows, and the enthusiasm of the Fermo districts. The arrival on the Girfalco, in front of the Cathedral and with views stretching over the Sibillini Mountains and the Adriatic Sea, offers images of strong identity for the entire province.
Around the stage, the Municipality of Fermo organizes a rich supporting program: the GIROLAND village with music, animation, and entertainment, the arrival of Giro-E (the e-bike version of the race), amateur rides, and cultural initiatives in the preceding days. Free shuttle buses connect peripheral parking lots to the historic center to facilitate public access.
The 2026 edition brought the Pink Race to Fermo on Saturday, May 16, with the eighth stage starting from Chieti (156 km, approximately 1900 meters of elevation gain). After an initial stretch along the Adriatic coast, the race heated up on the walls of the Fermano hinterland, with the Reputolo ramp and the final climb towards the Girfalco. The finish was expected between 5:02 PM and 5:25 PM on the square at the foot of the Cathedral.
The victory went to Ecuadorian Jhonatan Narváez (UAE Team Emirates XRG), who soloed to the finish on the Girfalco: his second win in this Giro. Behind him was Norway's Leknessund, 32 seconds back. The Maglia Rosa remained on the shoulders of Afonso Eulálio.
The day was enlivened by the GIROLAND village (1 PM-6 PM at the Terminal in Via Ficcadenti), the arrival of Giro-E, and amateur rides and cultural initiatives, with free shuttle buses to the center.
Fermo can be reached by car from the A14 motorway (Porto San Giorgio-Fermo exit), then the Mezzina dual carriageway. By train, the nearest station is Porto San Giorgio-Fermo on the Adriatic line, with connections to the center. Nearest airport: Ancona-Falconara.
On the day of the stage, the historic center will be subject to traffic closures and parking bans. It is advisable to use the peripheral parking lots (Santa Petronilla, Polo Scolastico, Viale Trento) and the free shuttle buses to the Girfalco.
The event is free and open to everyone along the route and in the finish areas.
