The patronal feast of the village of Fermo dedicated to the little martyr protector of children
The Festival of Saint Quiricus the Martyr is the most anticipated event of the year for the small Municipality of Lapedona, a village perched on the hills of the Province of Fermo, in the Marche region. In mid-July, the entire community gathers to honor its patron saint, Saint Quiricus, the child martyr venerated since the Middle Ages as the protector of the castle and, above all, of the little ones. The festival combines the deeply rooted religious dimension with the civil celebrations that liven up the historic center and Piazza Giacomo Leopardi.
Saint Quiricus is one of the oldest and most tender saints in Christian tradition: a child martyred along with his mother Juliet during the persecutions of the early centuries. In Lapedona, his memory is preserved in the Church of Saint Quiricus, a Romanesque jewel from the 11th-14th centuries with a suggestive crypt with vaults and columns, and 15th-century frescoes depicting the Madonna of Milk, Saint Judith, and the martyrdom of the little saint. Inside is preserved the venerated wooden statue of the patron saint, carried in procession during the festival.
The heart of the festival is the procession that winds through the village streets accompanied by the brass band, with the saint's statue carried on shoulders among the stone houses of the historic center. The days begin with morning masses and culminate in the solemn mass and Eucharistic blessing. Alongside the religious program, the civil celebrations offer moments designed for families:
Visiting Lapedona during the patronal feast also means discovering one of the most charming villages in the Fermo area, with its medieval layout, its four ancient districts, and glimpses of the Aso Valley down to the Adriatic Sea. The Festival of Saint Quiricus is the ideal opportunity to experience the authentic hospitality of the Marche region and the popular spirituality of this corner of the Marche, still far from mass tourism.
The Festival of Saint Quiricus the Martyr 2026 in Lapedona is spread over two days, Tuesday, July 14th and Wednesday, July 15th, alternating moments of devotion and popular celebrations.
On July 14th, religious celebrations begin in the morning with holy mass, continue with the procession to the monumental Church of Saint Quiricus, and conclude in the evening with the return procession and Eucharistic blessing. A show dedicated to children is scheduled in Piazza Giacomo Leopardi.
On July 15th, the patron saint's day, morning masses are followed by the solemn mass, while in the afternoon the rosary and procession cross the village accompanied by the brass band, with the final blessing in the square. The day ends with an evening musical performance.
All events are free admission. Details of the schedule are published by the Parish of Lapedona in the days preceding the festival.
The final program, with updated times and the names of the evening artists, will be released by the Parish of Lapedona in the weeks before the festival.
Lapedona is located in the hilly hinterland of the Province of Fermo. By car, it can be reached from the Pedaso exit of the A14 motorway, continuing inland along the Aso Valley (about 15 km). The nearest train station is Pedaso, on the Adriatic line.
The festival is held in mid-July, coinciding with the feast day of Saint Quiricus (July 15th).
All celebrations and festivities are free and open to everyone.
