The autumn festival dedicated to the apples of the Alto Oltrepò Pavese
The Giornata della Mela is one of the most cherished events in Bagnaria, a small village in the Staffora Valley in the Province of Pavia. For over forty years, on a Sunday in October, the festival celebrates the most beloved and representative fruit of the Alto Oltrepò Pavese, in a day that combines market, gastronomy, and rural tradition.
The heart of the festival is the market set up in Piazza Aldo Moro, where local producers offer zero-km apples in numerous varieties: Golden, Stark, Pomella Genovese, Renetta, Annurca, Fuji, Champagne, and Granny Smith. Alongside the apples, other seasonal fruits such as pears, chestnuts, and honey are displayed, showcasing the agriculture of these Apennine valleys.
Food and craft stalls line the square, while the refreshment point is managed by the Pro Loco of Bagnaria. The day is accompanied by live music and activities for families, from bouncy castles to pony rides for the little ones. There's also a focus on well-being, with free health screenings offered by the ATS.
Among the most characteristic offerings is the nature walk Il Tempo delle Mele (The Time of Apples), an excursion through the orchards and trails around the village that reveals the history, nature, and fruit-growing traditions of the Alto Oltrepò Pavese.
Promoted by the Municipality of Bagnaria and the Pro Loco, with the support of the Lombardy Region, the Giornata della Mela, along with the Cherry Festival (Sagra della Ciliegia), is one of the events that best represent the agricultural identity of Bagnaria and the Apennine Lombardy.
For the 2026 edition, Bagnaria renews its autumn event dedicated to the apple. In Piazza Aldo Moro, the local producers' market will return with apples of many varieties and other seasonal fruits, alongside food and craft stalls and the refreshment point managed by the Pro Loco. The day, according to tradition, will be enlivened by live music, activities for children, and the nature walk through the village's surroundings.
The detailed program for the 43rd edition will be published by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event.
