The art of the 'madonnari' for the younger generation
Giò Madonnari is the version dedicated to the younger generation of the tradition of the 'madonnari', the street artists who have been creating paintings on the pavement of Italian squares for centuries. In Piove di Sacco, a municipality in the province of Padua, the event brings children and teenagers to try their hand with coloured chalks in the historic centre.
A national CTG network
The initiative is promoted by the Centro Turistico Giovanile (CTG) and takes place in May in many Italian cities. Each year the event is accompanied by a slogan that guides its educational spirit, linking artistic activity to a message of growth and citizenship.
Creativity in the square
In Piove di Sacco, the street drawing competition is organised by CTG Saccisica and transforms the squares of the centre into a large outdoor creative workshop, where young artists give shape to their imagination under the eyes of families and passers-by.
Giò Madonnari — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of Giò Madonnari takes place on Sunday 31 May in Piove di Sacco. The CTG event, which has been colouring Italian squares with young people's chalk drawings for decades, brings children and teenagers to create their own works on the street in the style of the 'madonnari'.
