The festival of the land, the waters, and work in the fields on the banks of the Po
Every year, at the end of March, the floodplains of the Po between Guastalla and Gualtieri transform into the stage for Georgica, one of the most beloved events in the Bassa Reggiana. Founded in 2014, the festival has grown to become a reference point for those who love river landscapes, the countryside, and farming traditions: the name itself, inspired by Virgil's *Georgics*, is a tribute to working the land and the rhythm of the seasons.
Georgica is not a simple agricultural fair: each edition chooses a theme that intertwines environment, culture, and imagination. The river thus becomes a "place of imagination," capable of evoking the adventurous atmospheres of Salgari and Stevenson, but also of posing current questions about ethical responsibility, sustainable agriculture, migrations, and biodiversity conservation. It is a popular and cultured festival at the same time, designed for families, enthusiasts, and the curious.
The heart of the event is a large exhibition-market with over 200 exhibitors, spread along the banks of the Po. The offering is divided into different areas:
Georgica takes place at the Lido Po of Guastalla and Gualtieri, in the Province of Reggio Emilia, in a corner of Emilia-Romagna that directly overlooks the Po, a few kilometers from Parma, Mantua, and the UNESCO city of Sabbioneta. The event involves numerous riverside Municipalities of the Terre di Po and Gonzaga, making it a showcase for the entire floodplain area and its natural and cultural heritage.
The XII edition of Georgica confirmed the success of the festival of the land and waters, enlivening the Lido Po of Guastalla and Gualtieri for two days with around 15,000 visitors and 250 selected exhibitors. The Po River became a "place of imagination," evoking the adventurous atmospheres of Salgari and Stevenson and the thoughts of Gaston Bachelard, centered around a theme of ethical responsibility touching upon the environment, sustainable agriculture, and migrations.
The event involved numerous Municipalities of the Terre di Po and Gonzaga—including Boretto, Brescello, Luzzara, Colorno, Pomponesco, Casalmaggiore, and the UNESCO city of Sabbioneta—with a food and wine exhibition-market, nursery stock, boat trips on the Po, workshops, and demonstrations of ancient crafts.
Both days (March 28 and 29) featured the exhibition-market with 250 exhibitors, boat trips on the Po, the Little Farm area, Vintage Bazaar, and Food Truck offerings, open from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
